Fantastic! Great group of pictures Del. Thanks so much for taking and posting them. I really enjoy watching the progress on the entire project and your pics are the icing on the cake. Thanks again.

Interesting Note: A translucent film has been put over the windows on the East parking garage. I went to look at the progress on Friday, but you can no longer see through the windows.

I wonder if the parking garage is getting tired of the growing crowds at the garage? I see at least 2-3 people watching the construction each time I am there.

However, not all hope is lost. You can scoot over to the non-glass-covered windows to see the site. Hopefully those don't get boarded up too, but I think they might as the tower begins to rise.

    Anyone know anything about this?

I went up this afternoon after work. I have the 430am shift tomorrow again so I am about to go to bed. I will post pictures tomorrow afternoon/evening. I was just too tired today. They were welding the rebar and laying more of it down.

Sorry to keep you waiting, the morning shifts just take the energy right out of me. Most people go to bed on Friday and Saturday nights at 0230am, I am just waking up at about that time.

I didn't take that many. I was ready to go home and take a nap.

With all that rebar, it looks like they've created several layers of grid that will be lifted up and separated so it is distributed throughout the foundation mat.

Not sure how they are going to accomplish that -- should be fun to watch it unfold.

I stopped by and watched a bit during lunch. As of then there they were about 1/4 of the way through installing the vertical rebar that the sections will be attached to. Lots of work to be done before Friday when they start to pour.

    No kidding!

The noise level today was insane - not sure why.
These guys are real troopers - didn't see much of a slowdown, even in the rain.

Having a front row seat has both advantages and disadvantages!

I think the pour is a week from Friday last I heard.

last sunday i was told the pour would start sunday... 15 hours straight. however, judging from how much was done when i got off at midnight from La Baguette... friday makes more sense.

As it nears closer, I am sure it will depend more on the weather. I'm not sure, but I think concrete needs a certain temperature and humidity (and no rain) in order to set correctly, is this true?

Not really, concrete is a very versitile material to work with in most conditions. Rain is not an issue, unless you are trying to pour with a pristine finish to the concrete. Even then it can be done so long as it is not a hard and driving rain. The concrete is so heavy that it will displace even large amounts of water without degrading the concrete mix so long as the concrete is not dropped from a height greater than 6 or so feet from the source. That is why you see those concrete pumpers with a long arm and hose (tremie pipe) used to pour the piers. It not only gives them the reach they need but it allows the tremie to enter the hole and back it out as the pour fills it trying to maintain the min. distance so that the mix does not separate into its components, agregate, sand, water, and of course cement.

The concrete then cures in a chemical reaction that gives off heat as it solidifies. The only issues with temperature are to try to regulate the surface from curing either too fast or too slowly. This is to avoid differential curing rates that could lead to cracking. This is pretty rare and requires very extreme temperatures. Often you will notice newly poured concrete in cold temps with a blankets overtop the curing concrete slab so as to trap the heat from the curing concrete to insulate the slab from the outside air, or in extreme heat they will water the slab to keep it cool.

I would expect no delays for rain so long as the equipment on the site can manuever to allow all of the work that needs to be done to take place prior to the pour. As well as the crew do not have to clear the site due to lightning or other kinds of hazards so they can finish tying the steel. They still have a lot to do, but they are working around the clock so a lot can be done prior to Friday. It will be exciting to see.

Great shots Okcmomentum! Thanks for posting! Gives a sense of just how tall the Devon tower is going to be realizing that from floor 36 that is the view and just how much taller the new tower will be! Incredible!
