Not to go off line, but to clarify - Urban Renewal had nothing to do with the vacant parcels seen in the aerial. That is the result of private owners who, most likely, didn't take care of the property and it rotted and became dilapidated, requiring it being removed.

Certainly, with 20/20 hindsight Urban Renewal went too far, and adopted a faulty plan of total demolition instead surgical. But they aren't the blame for every vacant parcel of land in and near downtown.

Taken around 11:30 today. I could have stood there all day and watched. Weather is beautiful outside.

The next two were taken of the area of the pit right next to the south wall of the east garage. Not sure exactly what this stuff is being staged for.

I also got to watch the tower crane pickup a lenght of tubular rebar from the far east end of the site and carry it all the way over to the area in front of the south face of the west garage. So cool to watch!

haha in that one picture it looks like the concrete pumper is filling someone's suburban with concrete...that would be a mean trick.

Well did they have "nothing" to do with it or did they go "too far?" Nothing is a strong word, especially when it's relating to judgement calls by Urban Renewal.

heh - You keep showing you're not capable of understanding the context of one's comment or post. I said - UR had nothing to do with vacant area's of land shown in the provided aerial a couple of posts above, and not the CBD core. The point is they are responsible for one vacant parcel shown in that photo. One. Out of dozens.

I think there are a lot of people who don't understand the difference between Urban Renewal as a movement and the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority as an entity.

Would one of you folks "in the know" please answer a question for us regarding noises we're hearing from the worksite?

There are periodic whistles and alarms/sirens going off and we've been unable to figure out what they mean in relation to what is going on.

Yeah-we spend a lot of time looking out the window at break time. Can't wait for summer - maybe us girls will have some real eye candy.

Well as I am not there to hear the exact sounds you are refferring to, take my thoughts with a grain of salt. Often on a complex job site such as this there are saftey requirements that must be inforced. It is common for many vehicles to honk thier horns to alert other vehicles that they are passing behind.

Of course most of the trucks and equipment have back up alarms that will beep or even be constant while engaged in reverse.

The cranes often have a squeal associated with them when they are lifting and moving around.

Beyond this it could be anything...don't know if this helps but it is what it is, and you get what you pay for!

Cool Re: Devon Tower: Officially Under Construction

I really enjoyed looking at the new pics! Keep them coming. Also, aren't they supposed to pour the mat for the tower in 10 days? (March 13th)

Thanks OKC@heart - we figured that they were warnings of some sort. The whistle is the most baffling - almost sounds like a police whistle, but multiple toots.

Shrug - just more to add to cacophony!

From what I can tell on my lunch breaks, the whistle is blown when the crane has a heavy object in the air.

Would love some pics of the site to see progress if anyone can...

Also another unrelated question. How do you get past the limit of like 9 pictures being posted on the account? I have tried on several threads to post and now since a certain capacity has been reached I can't and I also can't see how to remove the old files. Help anyone?

The best way I've found is to create a photobucket account, upload your pictures there, and then post the "forum" code for each picture in your message.

Awesome pictures! I'll be on vacation until 3/16, so it's great to see what's going on while I'm gone. At this rate, there will be a building in no time!

    Thanks Del!

    Wow, that's a boatload of re-bar.

Amazing how that area was a sloppy mudhole just last week and now is a model of neat and intricate engineering.
