Updates to Vintage Okc Downtown Pages

This morning, I've "finished" (as though that word means something "absolute") my revisions to the vintage map pages of my Downtown Oklahoma City webpages. I've also made corresponding revisions to downtown Okc pages associated with this change.

I've not had time to incorporate "new" images into the "Vintage Decades" pages, but they are accessible in the revised "Vintage Map" page. In this map, you should be able to click on a particular building in the map and a separate page should open showing 1 or more images associated with that building.

If you're interested in "vintage" downtown Oklahoma City images and history, I've just updated my web pages in that regard, as follows:

The standard "portal" page for my downtown Okc pages is http://www.dougloudenback.com/downtownOKC.htm . It has been revised to include new links to the revised areas.

A direct link to the revised "Vintage Map" page is: http://www.dougloudenback.com/downto...age/oldmap.htm . This is a clickable map to show the location of "vintage" downtown buildings which will open assoicated web pages for that building.

A direct link to the new"Movies" page (which shows downtown cinema before the 1970s Urban Renewal) is here: http://www.dougloudenback.com/downto...e/1.movies.htm . Ahh ... the old movie theaters. This is what this one's for.

I've not had time to update the "Decades Pages" to include the several new images which are presently only accessible through the Vintage Map. I'll get around to that shortly.

Any of you checking out these pages who find mistakes/loading errors/whatever, I'd appreciate your feedbback.

Are you by chance, the man who sells the vintage photos of OKC at the craft malls around here? I remember seeing an article in the Oklahoman, and looking through all those photos. It might not have even been a similar name. Just wondering.

No, I'm not that guy. The "vintage" images I've included are either generic finds on the web or are from (1) Terry L. Griffith's 3-volume Images of America, Oklahoma City, series(still in print and available locally ... highly recommened by me), or (2) the 3 volume Vanished Splendor series published 1982-1985 (out of print) by Abalache Book Shop Publishing Co, Okc, written and assembled by Jim Edwards, Mitchell Oliphant, and Hal Ottaway.

As to the "guy", I didn't know that such a guy existed, else I'd probably have sought him/her out since this subject is pf such great interest to me. If you locate that person, I'd appreciate your advice as to how to make contact. So much more exists in Okc's history than I know, and I'm endeavoring to make anything I find availalble in my vintate Okc web pages.

But, while we're at it, lets go the old movies, downtown, before Urban Renewal:

Aside from the more mundane downtown "building" images, some of the Theaters pics might be more fun. They are all in the Movies page. The Midwest & Cooper/Harber & State images were hard for me to find. These are images from when I was a kid:

I came across his name and actually spoke with him by phone a year or so ago when I did research on the old drive-in movie theaters that used to be in the area (by the way, if you're interested in that topic, there is a guy here in OKC runs a historical association that collects photos and information about the old drive-in theaters across the nation.)

He has in the recent past sold his photos at the Craft Malls of America out on NW Expressway. I'll see if I can dig up his name and PM it to you.

I've updated the http://www.dougloudenback.com/downtownOKC.htm pages again (9/9/05). They now include a vintage building index and all decades pages have been updated to include images earlier available via the vintage downtown map. This is probably only interesting to people who are interested in "old" downtown history/stuff. The vintage area now includes about 89 pages (if printed) and 187 or so images. I guess I'm pretty hooked on the topic! Anyway, check it out if you're interested.
