Mr. Chows???

Has anyone eaten at Mr. Chows??? (30th and May)...I recently read a review that the place was great....Have lived near it for a few years now but have never been. There always seems to be cars there but it looks shady as can be (however I realize those places are some of the best). Anyone? Anyone?

We used to eat there all the time. I don't know why we stopped. The food was always good and the people very nice. We'll have to go back there and eat again. It's an old IHOP, and they haven't updated the restaurant, but there really isn't any reason not to try it.

Chow's is a great place to get authentic Chinese cuisine. It's not the best looking place but the food is good. I also recommend Fung's kitchen if you're looking for authentic Asian. They are the other restaurant in the area I go to to get my Asian fix..

It's just Chow's. My parent's own the place and we've been opened there for over 19 years on and off with slight vacations in between.

Shady? Maybe. Not the greatest neighborhood, but a lot of our customers drive bmws, audis, lexus, and mercedes and nobody's car has been broken in. Except mine a few years back! And I was driving an old ford escort wagon. Can you believe that??

Our service sucks, the restaurant looks old and dingy, but we do have the best authentic chinese food in town . I've eaten at every Chinese restaurant in OK and can't find a decent place so I tend to never eat asian food except sushi in Oklahoma. Grand House makes me sick to my stomach because they use old food. Fung's kitchen is a 2nd decent choice I guess, and they have dim sum that is edible on the weekends.

Our seafood is usually fresh. We get our fish from Boston flown in.

You lost me as a potential customer right there. Too many places with decent to excellent service to bother stopping somewhere the service sucks.

We are not after customers. We don't try to have bad service, but our waiters are terrible and we just don't care because if you really care about good food then you'll deal with it.

I'm not bad mouthing competitors, it's my opinion of their food as someone that's eaten a lot of different chinese food from different places(in Hong Kong and mainland China also).

If I had my way, I'd close down our restaurant and sell it as soon as possible. Because really, I hate the place. It's done nothing but over work my parents and having to deal with snobby and cheap customers. I'd actually rather have LESS customers come.

This is a forum and there is really no need for well thought out posts just to impress random people on here. If you really think its necessary, you have too much time on your hands. If you think about it, we've been open for more than 20 years and have no problem getting customers so no big loss here.

Armani, Thanks for replying. I wasnt sure of the exact name of the place. I do however feel that this thread is about to heat up based on your comments. Thank you for telling me your service sucks because I am having a birthday dinner tomorrow night with a large group and I was thinking of trying the place out but since there will be bad service I will go ahead and pass. And since you want less customers I guess there is no room for potential new ones. Maybe I will try it to go one night, then again maybe not. I wonder if your parents share your viewpoints about the restaurant?

Call me crazy but I am betting that your "our service sucks" policy has a lot to do with the snobby and cheap customers.

No it is not the customers fault. Our waitstaff are all students so they tend to not care unless they know they are getting a decent tip. Although, we did have a recent staff change so maybe you'll get decent service. Each dish is prepared separately so the wait is long if we have large parties.

If you want to have a party, I suggest you call ahead (405) 473-7678 and she can hook you up. You can order dishes ahead of time and we can set up party tables for you to make it look nicer. The service will also be better for parties. Our main business is large parties usually and our parking lot does get full on the weekends sometimes.

Sorry for sounding as if I'm trying to start something.

Armani, may I kindly suggest that you never, never, never admit your restaurant's "service sucks." You had people speaking fairly positively about your place in this thread and you created a negative perception that didn't exist. That said, I'm going to ignore your comments and try your restaurant anyway!

I'll give this place a try based solely on his honesty, besides, if the food is good and the service bad, you'll have a good meal and save money by not leaving a tip.

A bit of a warning: when Armani said "authentic Chinese" he was serious. We are all used to Tex-mex" Chinese. Brace yourselves.

Well, I am from Asia, Malaysia to be more specific, and I would say Chow is very close to what i get back home. It's not what you get elsewhere around here but its pretty damn good!

Armani, tell us about some of the most popular dishes at the restaurant. I'm ok w/ it not being the nicest building in town. Some of the best restaurants I've been to weren't in great spots.

I agree, I appreciate his honesty and It has no effect on whether or not I will try it. I mean, I still go to iguana grill even though their service sucks.

Sure, I can recommend some dishes.

First thing you should probably do is ask what is fresh. My mom goes to the Asian market every day to buy fresh produce so they never use old stuff. But, since this is Oklahoma after all, it is really difficult to get fresh seafood. The oysters are usually fresh and they are opened upon being ordered. I don't really like oysters myself, and sometimes you get a bad one here and there so be wary of that. Especially the people that really know how to eat oysters, you can smell if they are bad before you eat them. Just a warning!

The fish is usually always good. It is also very healthy. If you take a look at my family, we are all skinny and our diets are all from eating at our restaurant. The fish is steamed first, and then hot oiled is poured over it to fully cook it. The rest is just soy sauce, salt, sugar, and pepper. Tell you right now, most the ingredients are salt, sugar, and pepper...can you believe that?? I had a hard time learning to cook from my parents because there is no set amount, they just are so use to it.

The quail, as mentioned earlier, is tasty and also unique because you can eat the bones. It is just a tiny bird cut in half and fried. Then it's just sprinkled in a little msg and salt.

We also have the weirder variety if you can stomach it: jelly fish (cold appetizer, tripe, and intestines.

Also, you can BRING YOUR OWN BEER/LIQUOR. Unlike other restaurants, I think this feature really sets our restaurants apart from others. How great is it that you can bring your own beer/liquor without paying those high prices? We also have coolers in the back and buckets of ice if you bring a lot. Our large vietnamese parties also bring cases of Heiniken.

Here is also a review from a food critic. I don't really agree of his rating system, but he does have Pictures!

I am a big fan of authentic Chinese, especially the coastal stuff. We always seem to get Americanized central-China region stuff here... can't wait to check your stuff out.
