Hey you guys and gals......merry christmas.......generals64
And to all, " a goodnight"
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Prunette has been baking all day. Bread, candy, snacks, etc... A couple of
hours ago we braved the snow and delivered Christmas goodies to our
neighbors. Tomorrow we're going to connect with our daughter and her
family via the Internet and watch the grand daughter open her gifts and
anything else that happens.
It's a little past Christmas but just now having time to cruise around and read threads. This one brought back a lot of memories. I would like to be able to find ribbon candy like we had in the 50's & 60's. Also, I put 4 stringers of bubble lights on my tree every year. I loved the blizzard this year because I didn't have to be in 2 different towns on 2 different days. I always keep a package of frozen black-eyed peas from my sisters garden back for New Years day. Usually it is purple hull peas, but this year it was black-eyed. Time to start thinking about spring!
just a few weeks away from Ho-Ho-Ho- shopping. Prunepicker, I'm putting in now for my Xmas Experience....Same as last year....Please....O.K.?...Soonergirl26 has already told me what she is getting for you but I won't tell....Then again......
Walmart, Target, and Kmart started Christmas Layaways last month (NBC NEWS)
"Just around the corner Ho-ho-ho. That's right, Santa Claus is getting all geared up how about you?????Can you reveal any of your childhood memories of the time before Christmas?????"
I remember when i was a child, when Christmas eve comes i put socks on my window when i go to sleep and after that, when i wake up in the morning, the socks that i put in my window is full of candies.

I can still remember the electrifying atmosphere the week before Christmas. The things you would dream about as kids knowing that Santa was going to bring you some of those dreams and put them in your house and they belonged to you....TG&Y did not owned my first Fanner 50 after Christmas....Santa Clause got it and gave it to me....One year my dad (Over the Road Trucker) was home early Christmas EVE and he told my mom to take my sister and I for an Ice Cream at Shaw's Drug Store...then we would go to Ardmore for Christmas.....Of course, Santa Claus came while we were gone (1953)....still have the picture of my sister and I playing with the toys while my mom and dad got ready to leave....Then EUREKA!!!...I came up with this ingenious idea. Since Santa had already come to our house if we would drive real fast to Ardmore and get it bed at my Grandparents house Sants Claus would probably leave us a double portion....My dad didn't go fast enough...just got a Sweater....Memories of those times are great.....
Frank Sinatra stated that there are three stages each person goes through in line:
1). You believe in Santa
2). You don't believe in Santa
3). You are Santa Clause!!!!
this is horrible...October 31st, 2010:...........Television ad for Christmas specials....there won't be enough money around to buy much Christmas this year. When the kids (3-4 grade) are expecting ipads and iPhones...there goes the old budget...what happened to the 79cent bags of army men and the $4.99 "Chatty Cathy?......Candy....... probably not.....oh well, I'll be quiet.....
Amen to that! I hate the guilt trips kids and other parents try to put on people these days. I remember being really happy to get a new cap gun or bow and arrow set, some new underwear and socks, maybe a new pair of blue jeans. A real treat was a quart jar of pop corn grown by an aunt and uncle on their farm in Missouri. Candy? There was usually a 25 cent peppermint stick that it seemed to take a day or two to finish off. Sometimes an apple or orange would be in the stocking along with an assortment of nuts, all of which had to be shelled before eating them.
Kids today don't want, they EXPECT! I miss the elder relations. At least one would make candy. Peanut brittle, divinity (my favorite), fudge (chocolate & peanut butter), and more! I miss that more than any toys, games.......It seems like that was the only time of year you could get mixed-nuts. My parents have spoken about the homemade candy and a piece of fruit in your stocking. And I long to go to midnight mass as a family......
My first Midnight Mass was at the invitation of an old Mexican woman from Little Flower. My bride-to-be and I had been helping her and some of her family make tamales for their after mass party. We went to Little Flower and I was in awe of how beautiful the inside of the church was. I was a fallen away heathen and my intended was a fallen away cradle Catholic, but we went because we didn't want to insult our hostess by not accepting her invitation to Mass or by not eating all the tamales and drinking all the beer and cactus juice we could hold. Mass, then tamales, not a bad combination. There were 3 generations of the same bloodlines and 2 Anglos there as family that night. Come up to Corpus Christi this year, we have a post-Midnight Mass party and we'll treat you like one of the family..... even at Mass.
My family has always had a long tradition...Christmas gifts were only for any under the age of 18--without exception. That way everyone could spend all they had on the younger folks. It was a long pattern that if you wanted to get your mother something--do that anytime--not just at the holiday. Most adults like to pick what they get anyhow...it made it possible for the kiddos to get most of the things they wanted and no one wasted time and expense on buying Aunt Mary a Salad Shooter....it is all about marketing. Give the ones who really like it the best you can afford. Christmas is for children. If you don't know that--you've missed the whole point.

wouldn't it be fun for this group of old timers to have a Christmas party and everyone brought a gift from the past?.....I'd kinda want one from PapaOU...Homemade candy....wow....you know, Christmas for me is all about Christ....Not getting "Mushy" on you but, it's a time of year that people CALM Down and realize just how fortunate they really are.....I looked a Gasoline prices today $2.47 gallon...California is around 3.60 ...How fortunate are we that live in this area of the nation with the economy going clippity clop.....
