Thread: Oklahoma City - worth fighting over

Default Oklahoma City - worth fighting over

I have been reading these MAPS 3 posts and am sorta shocked at how passionate, angry, mean spirited, snarky, and belligerant many of the postings have been. Some long term mellow posters have been acting like rabid squirrels and a lot of new names have abruptly appeared with doubled up fists all windmilling around. Words are flying like you guys are in middle school. People are really up in arms over this thing.

What I'd like to add is an observation from out here in Virginia. This level of passion, excitement and community interest is thrilling to me, notwithstanding the rancor. I have been away from home for ten long years and there is simply nothing comparable on the community level in this neck of the woods, a stone's throw from our Nations Capital.

What MAPS 3 reveals to me is that the people in OKC love their city. They care about the direction it is going. They don't agree on that direction and some grown men (women?) have been reduced to stealing signs (for the love of god) - such dirty politics. On the one hand it is sickening but on the other, it is signs of life. Some of you know what a treasure you have in OKC but a lot don't even realize.

We have a home waiting for us in Oklahoma City, proper, but won't be back in time to vote (but we'll be home for good in less than a week!). Even though we aren't voting, we'll be affected by the decision.

I just wish all of you the best and thanks for caring about our town. Go vote.

Good for you Penny. You understand why we are out here doing this.

Well, I think I understand both sides. I hope I do, anyway.

All I can say is thank God the vote is tomorrow. Then it will change to snarky, mean-spirited comments about the fascists and socialists, and the stupid back woods okies who passed MAPS. Finally, it will slowly just die away.....

You shouldn't have stuck a Yes Maps sign on the door. Big mistake.

I just wish it were Oklahoma City we were fighting over. This issue has devolved to something nowhere in the proposals. I wish there were evidence that most of the NO voters cared about something other than issues unrelated to this election, or their pocketbooks.

Well, Betts, there really did get some bad feelings going. I hope everyone can kiss and make up, promptly.
