Thread: Best Places For Catfish

    Default Best Places For Catfish

I'm looking for the best places for catfish in the state of Oklahoma. I have some favorites but would love to know what favorites you have.

    My favorites are:

G.P.'s BBQ Grill on NW Expressway by Surrey Hills
    McGeehee's near Marietta
White River Fish Market in North Tulsa
    Lazy Fisherman in South Bixby

I hear that the Chicken Express (?) in Chickasha and other towns serves really good catfish.

Let's hear it. What are your favorites?

McGeehees is about as good as you're going to get anywhere in the world.

A distant second is Bills Fish house. Try it with the pink house dipping sauce.

    Waurika
    Highway 79, west of Waurika
    Waurika, OK 73573
    (580) 228-2372

    Lone Grove
    Highway 70, 803 S Heritage
    Lone Grove, OK 73443

    Best in the state?

    1. Simon's Catch - south of Elk City. Amazing catfish and steaks.
    2. Catfish Round-up - Prague exit off of I-40. Plus...delicious apple fitters and homemade bread...crazy good!

I lived in Tulsa for 5 years, so I agree White River and Lazy Fisherman are 2 of the best. But years ago, there was a restaurant out in the country north of El Reno and a little east off hwy 81 that had excellent catfish. It may have been called the Timbers or something like that. Does anyone remember it? Or know if it is still open. If it is, I might try to go by there next time I come back to Oklahoma.

What about in OKC? There was a place out on the 39th street expressway in Bethany that closed that had good catfish. Catfish cabin is ....ehhhhh....OK. Any other ideas?

Catfish Haven in Willis just south of Madill near Lake Texoma or Doug's peach orchard just north of the Red River on Hwy 81 at Terral.

The catfish at Charleston's (yes, a dreaded chain restaurant) is good. Comes with really tasty slaw, fries & hushpuppies. The filets are always really good...never tastes too dirty, and is very meaty unlike some places where you mostly just get crispy breading.

I used to go to a place on Lake Thunderbird alot, Cafe T-Bird or something like that. Was kinda rundown looking from the outside but they had great catfish. All you can eat for real cheap. Haven't been in a few years though, not sure if it's still around.

We also used to go to Windy's down around Texhoma when I was younger. It was always a choice between Windy's & McGeehee's.

I'll add a third vote for Catfish Platter in Willis, just a mile or two north of Lake Texoma and the state line. (That's south of Madill on US 377.) Best fish in the land, and yes, those hushpuppies are amazing. I haven't been in a few years--need to get in there when I'm down in that area visiting my family.

The catfish and steak barn on I-35 and Waterloo is really good. They have a challenge on the all you can eat catfish. The record is currently at 42 fillets.

    Hours? Pricing?
Prize if you top the record, and cost if you don't?

    Libby's Cafe - Goldsby
    111 N. Main St
    Goldsby, OK
    405.288.2418
Take the next exit after you pass Riverwind Casino on I-35. You can see the sign as soon as you exit. But it's about a half block to the West, on the South side of the street. You can eat downstairs in the restaurant or upstairs in the bar area. All of it is non smoking except the nice big covered patio.

    Libby's Cafe - Goldsby, OK

    FRIED CATFISH

Fried Catfish - w/ choice of 2 sides and hushpuppies
    $8.50 Small | $9.50 Regular | $12.50 All-You-Can-Eat (please, no sharing)
    Fish Only
    $8.00 Small | $9.00 Regular | $11.95 Large

I'm really picky about my catfish and this is really good. It's not gritty, the breading is light, and the homemade tarter is awesome.

That place out by El Reno was The Wilds. I don't know whether it is still open. I'll check the web. It was good. I went fishing out there a time or two in their lake. Went to some parties and a hay ride there too. But that was a long time ago.

Libby's is open again? Last time I went down there it was closed. You're right. It's good. Punkin's at Pauls Valley used to be good, too. Is it still in business?

That place is right next to my moms new house. I wasn't impressed with the catfish I've gotten used to Bills Fish house and McGeehee's light golden breading. Steak and Catfish's catfish is a little too salty for me their burgers are phenomenal though, and the fried okra is pretty awesome too.

The Wilds Fish Farm at El Reno is now The Wilds of BLC, a youth camp. You can find it at BLC.

Catfish and Steak on Waterloo/I-35 is pretty good. The best I have had is JB's in Hollis, OK.
