Thread: The Lemon Tree

  1. Default The Lemon Tree

Wondering if anybody knew anything about The Lemon Tree located in Chatenay Square off S.W. 109th and Penn? I couldn't tell if they were open or not. I'm guessing it's a gelato place? Any information would be most appreciated.

Went today with my 4 year old. It is extremely cute inside, bright greens and browns, pillows, modern chairs, etc...but not kid friendly. All the frozen yogurt is self serve and sold by weight. I got two flavors, mango and chocolate, each about half way full and the cost was $6.76. There were some neat flavors, like pomegranate (pretty sour), green tea, grape, and whatever "original" is. They do give out some tiny sample cups so you can try before you buy. The crepe, as far as I can tell, is a smoothie, and they have candies, etc to add to whatever, a la Marble Slab. They did not have any nutritional information available, which was interesting, since the title of the store mentions low fat. All in all cute place, maybe a date spot.

    just got back from there...

the crepes and smoothies are two separate menu items... these are the only things the staff makes for you, the rest being self serve.

i got a cup of green tea & mango. loved it. but then again, i'm no froyo connoisseur.

the only gripe that i have is that they claim a $5 minimum purchase with credit card which is a violation of visa's policy. it's a pet peeve of mine.

mmm, I share you're pet peeve, I can tell you of at least 4-5 places that do that and it irks me to no end. If VISA finds out they send a threatening letter or remove their priveledges to use VISA.

I tried to find a Visa phone number to report these businesses who are not following their end of the deal.

Del City Tag Agency just adds 2.5% onto your bill if you use a Visa. Ridiculous.

Anyone else have any luck finding a way to contact Visa about this?

according to visa's website, the procedure is to call the issuing bank's credit card customer service number and report it to them. they will, in turn, report it to visa.

also... i'm pretty certain that adding a credit card surcharge is not only against visa policy, it is against state law.

I doubt it is against state law- OTC charges a 2.5% fee on credit card transactions.

I wouldn't put it past 'em.

I'm on the line with Visa right now. It is, indeed, against their merchant agreement. They have taken the information for Del City Tag Agency and the Oklahoma Tax Commission and will be contacting them.

I encourage any of you who have seen surcharges or minimum purchases at merchants to call your card servicer. That is against the terms of service.

It is the businesses right to accept certain credit cards. They get charged a fee for every transaction they make, so sometimes stores (usually Asian owned) will have a lower limit to what the charges can be. It is their way of not passing on an increase in prices to everyone.

    Really $5! Get over it.

au contraire. let me introduce you to...

    §14A-2-211.

With respect to all sales transactions, a discount which a seller
offers, allows or otherwise makes available for the purpose of
inducing payment by cash, check or similar means rather than by use of
an open-end credit card account shall not constitute a credit service
charge as determined under Section 2-109 of Title 14A of the Oklahoma
Statutes if the discount is offered to all prospective buyers clearly
and conspicuously in accordance with regulations of the Administrator.
No seller in any sales transaction may impose a surcharge on a
cardholder who elects an open-end credit card account instead of
paying by cash, check or similar means. There is no limit on the
discount which may be offered by the seller. A seller who provides a
discount otherwise than in accordance with the regulations of the
Administrator must make the disclosures required by those regulations.
now, things such as paying taxes to the tax commision probably don't constitute 'sales' transactions... but you get the idea.

yes, really. i don't like carrying cash. i don't like getting change. if i want to pop into a convenience store and buy just a drink, i should be able to do so without having to buy $4 worth of other crap that i don't want. besides, its a violation of most credit card merchant agreements.

Yes the one on 119th is orange tree i know this is a late response but i must say it is arguably better than lemon tree there is no $5 minimum on visa and the price is much cheaper! Their yogurt is always creamy and VERY delicious never too tart or never too sweet and the cheesecake and peanutbutter is amazing! All the different toppings they have are totally amazing! If you have not been yet you should definitely go you won't be disappointed and the customer service is amazing! The workers are always pleasant!
