But, just a few days ago I was attacked by a freaking horsefly at Turner's Falls! I thought it was a Bee, and since I'm allergic to bees I instantly tried to jump into the water.. well, as most of you know, it's pretty slick and shallow in that area.. so I was flailing around in about an inch of water trying to submerge myself.. I ended up much more bruised and injured than if I had just taken the sting of an bee.. heavy sigh.. damn bugs.
OMG I know that's not funny, but good lord I snorked loud enough to get the person in the next room's attention... HORSEFLIES SUCK!

Oklahoma also have the Brown Recluse spider.

This still terrorify me of actually seeing one near by.

Here is an example of their bite. Once they bite, the tissues will die before healing.

I never knew of them until I've read and seen pictures about them last year or two. Ever since, I've been worried about having one in my place. I know they can be found in dark places and what is scary is that I always keep the lights off until I am in a room.

let me give you some advice the doctor at the hospital told me they are common in the house, if you have teacups sets wine glass sets inside curios they like to go in them, they like closets and beds. i have seen them on ceilings (very creepy). they like houses that a warmer, so kick on that air to 66 degrees.. whats weird every time i got bit ( the two times) or the times i see them the most is late spring to late summer and it is always right before a night time storm , when the house is hot and humid and sticky. The best thing that worked for me is the room foggers and the spray called hot shot. Just thank goodness i havent seen any in the house i have lived in these past two years, but i think i might fog the house soon to be on the safe side

I had a friend who actually had an Imperial Scorpion as a pet. He'd take an emory board (fingernail board) and file the sharp part of the stinger down. That was the creepiest hugest damn bug (I know it's not a bug) that you've ever held in your hand.

What was even more creepy is that it turned out to be VERY pregnant and one morning he woke up and there were about a thousand little bitty ones. Sadly she ate every one of them within 24 hours. (or not sadly, depending on your outlook).

I had a tarantula once as a pet. Stupid as a sack of hair. It's was like a sleeping ball of hair and legs. I literally had to prod the damn thing to eat.

Good lord. Are they letting the inmates in the asylum back on the internet, again?

Dunno... found it in the back yard years ago. Brown and stupid. I felt so sorry for it I let it go after about a week....lol

Haha, it was probably an Aphonopelma hentzi or the Oklahoma brown. I'm guessing it was a male as these tarantulas don't wander far from their burrows unless they're looking for mates! They're pretty docile though.

I had a spider bite a few summers ago. After doing some research, it really sounded and looked like an early brown recluse (fiddleback) bite. I called poison control to see if I should see a doctor. The guy was pretty sure that's what it was. He assured me that only about 1% of brown recluse bites result in the skin necrosis that I'm sure Thunder linked to above (I refuse to look at those photos!). Usually that kind of necrosis happens when they get a really good bite on you and let loose a lot of venom, and it's more likely to happen in a fattier area. I was bitten on my hip. I was waiting for that bite to get pretty bad, given that's probably the fattiest part of my body! Haha. But, after a few days of scariness, it went away.

And the poison control center guy called me back. He was concerned enough to do that, which was nice. The doctor couldn't make a for-sure call, since it never developed past a large red, inflamed, bulls-eye kind of thing, but the poison control guy was pretty sure he was right about it.

So...moral of the story: Clean your home, and rid your floors of all paper. They love to hide in paper. Don't let your bed linens touch the floor, because they will latch on and crawl in. You won't feel them bite you if you're asleep. Shake out shoes, check your shower curtain and shower curtain liner (I've had them hide in there...creepy), and just be careful. Once they're in, they're in. Their bodies are made in such a way that spray won't hurt them much and they just walk over the powdered stuff. Resilient little buggers.

All that said, and all that knowledge...and I'm still scared to death of them and have nightmares.
    Still corrupting young minds

So I also let the little guy go live in a more appropriate area.

    Nice Thunder. Nice.

You know, this is one creepy thread. I think I have brushed my back off at least twice now while reading it.

Since we're swapping pictures of creepy things, how about those earwigs and the old legend that they like to crawl into people's ears at night as they sleep:
