Thread: South of St Anthony

No hard feelings of course Jeff. We had talked about possibly extending it to 5th or even 4th, because that has more of the same feel than say the Arts District. Since nothing is official yet, the dialogue is open. I look to start up the conversations here in the next couple of weeks with property owners again.

As someone who lives on Francis and has a wife and two school age girls we absolutely love it here! We have not had any major problems and in no way worry about our safety. We have found that the diversity and grittiness is part of an urban lifestyle and we embrace it instead of fearing it. Now is the time for anyone thinking about moving to this area and we welcome the growth. We love our neighbors who have also become great friends. SoSA really is growing into a true organic community that is only going to get better!

I would like some thoughts on a different name - SoSA depends on an entity rather than a characteristic, and Cottage District should really apply to Edgemere Park, not this area.

Thursday I thought of something like The Glass District. What are the resident's thoughts? Other people?

ew, I hate the sound of glass district. it's so generic....like "Asian District" or "Adventure District" but that doesn't quite capture the blandness of it. "glass district" is more akin to "furniture district."

    SoSA>>>>Cottage District>>>>>>>>>>>Glass District.

    Suggest a better name then?

Careful there friend... think twice before wading into this fight. You'd be better off visiting Bobo's Chicken after midnight...

Wading is one of the things I've done best as of late.

Actually, to be fair, to start I'd just like to know where "Cottage District" came from. I understand SoSA (and I like seeing it written that way), but I don't know/have the history of using the term cottage.

Tell ya what... go get some Bobo's right now and let's see how tough you are. And if you get to the front counter alive, get some extra chicken and give me a call. Then we'll get into the history talk...

    Is Bobo's really that dangerous?

Depends on the time of night... I've spent quite a bit of time on NE 23rd during the day for work and I've never experienced a problem, but some contractors I know witnessed drive-bys and other incidents. Being there at night brings other challenges - but I would imagine that late at night, in the summer heat, explosive encounters could happen.

Bobo's ain't dangerous to yer Average Joe.

Now, if you're a whackjob who wanders around showing off a Dog the Bounty Hunter impression, .... then again, that's more general stupidity than being Bobo's specific.

There are numerous places where it's far more likely for someone to take a bullet or a blade than Bobo's, even in areas where the major intersections can just as easily be renamed Martha Stewart Blvd. and Vanilla Ln.

kevinpate is absolutely right - I don't mean to say Bobo's late at night is the MOST dangerous place in the city. But common sense tells you not to go to a gang area late on a hot summer night. I could have easily challenged Cafe to go to a taco truck at SW 15 and Central to prove his manhood...
Or worse, I could have dared him to invite Randy Floyd and Dennis Wells over for dinner to discuss coming up with a new name for their neighborhood.

Well I'm in the two block area of no man's land bordered by Dewey. Dewey seems to have the strongest name- therefore my assistant has proposed calling it the "Dewey Decimal District". All of the addresses will be fractions. You won't live in apartment b. You would live at 605.2 NW 4th. Lol. Only he can come up with stuff like this.

And believe it or not, I checked with the postmaster and they're ok with this if the postman is! LOL

While I'm sure this may go over like a turd in the punch bowl, it's far more creative than the continual ripping off of Soho -- which every city does. It's really played out at this point.

Rick Dowell wants to name his area Central Park. I'm sure that will iritate some "Core to Shore" folks among the normal irritations. LOL.

What is the name of the park that is around 6th and Lee? I think they should play off the name Midtown since that name is recognizable and has a positive image now.

You're referring to the one at 7th between Shartel and Lee, it's Red Andrews Park.

Lovallo's house is well under way. Ground broke and foundation poured on a new house on the NE corner of 8th and Classen last week. Also looks like Randy Floyd and the ODG are fixing to do two projects directly west of them on NW 7th. Glad to see the momentum moving north to NW 8th. I know at least 1-2 other projects slated on NW 8th as well.

That is awesome! I will have to drive by and check it out. I can't wait to see the designs of the houses.

Lovallo's house seems to be going slowly. I think that the rain has kept them at bay. Hopefully this nice week will give them a chance to "Dry it in".

At least the form is there.
