How about, these places. Eddie's Pool Hall 24th just off walker, George's Pass Time between 4th & 5th so. Robinson, this was a old school pool/domino hall. They also had snooker and seemed to have the rules for about any game you play on a billard table. The old men that hung out there was serious about there games. There was a pool hall that a friend took me to,must have been early 72, before they accually torn down OKC. It was above The Kip's Big Boy I think main between Hudson & Robinson (?). Don't think it really had history it seemed to new, but they were opened late maybe all night. We went after we got off work at DQ on south walker across from Capitol Hill. Also remember when Coit's on western was Weber's. ''kid''

Geroge's Pass Time; been tryin' to think of that name for years.

until recently the bldg where Eddie's still had the sign on it. Wish I could have gotten that!!

I was born in '55 and for years my people called it Weber's. That's what I knew it as.
I think that is one of the problems when things like this comeup. If you or your family lived near or frequented these places you probably know it by the origional.
If not you know the modern.

Hey! I've driven a '58, '59 and 61 sumpin-or-another. Renaults (pronounced
reeee-nalt) Puegeots (poo-joe).

One day a friend and I were cruising S. Agnew. As we crossed SW 29th a
car load of girls started honkin' and yelling as us, and nothing derogatory!
Immediately we knew that they must have northsiders!

Naturally, I did what any red blooded General boy would do and made an
abrupt U-turn and stomped the gas to catch up with the girls. We hit the
intersection at about 50mph and it felt like we were airborne on the first
dip. My buddy looked behind us and said, "Hey,there's a cop behind us."
He was always kidding about cops being on our tail. A few blocks later I
made a hard left turn with squealing tires and everything. Then I heard
this siren.

"Where is it?", I yelled.
"Right behind us, you %$@&! I told you that a million blocks ago!"
"Since when did you start telling the truth?"
"Today!"

To make a short story longer, the cop did the usual routine. The other
cop in the car was smiling big and acting like he was shooting us with his
finger and ducking behind the dashboard.

When he asked me what kind of car it was I mumbled "poo-joe".
He stuck his head in the car and yelled, "what'd you call me, boy?!"

"It's a Peugeot! Honest occifer! Look on the hood!"

I got one heck of a ticket that day.

Well I don't want'a rain on your parade, Coit might have owned it but it was
still called Webers at least at the time I'm talking about,maybe spring 68.
I took a job there as a carhop lasted, I think 2 evening& one saturday.And at that time there was no indoor tables, they did have a table on the south
end of the building. I think it was more for the employees. The rootbeer you could get in those waxed coated cones that looked like megaphones.And to answer the other part of your question I'm 53 graduated form Capitol Hill High
went to Capitol Hill JR High, and Washington and Shidler grade school. ''kid

So... Back last fall Soonergirl checked this out on the Historical Society site and it tells where Coits got their start. They started at 24th and S. Robinson in 1953 from buying out the "The Webers" which were school teachers by trade. It was Coit/Weber's Root Beer until the following year 1954 when the Weber's went their own way. I went by and talked to the Manager where you have your meetings and the assistant manager and confirmed this. Next meeting just ask them the history I just mentioned, they love to discuss it. It was never Weber's after 1954, you can believe it or not, but better yet check it out like I did with the people who run the place. I lived about 10 minutes from Coits! Better yet, have Soonergirl pull up the articles concerning this merger, purchase transition etc. Not worth arguing about. Have a good day!!

Wedgewood? Everyone was supposed to enter how long they thought the
VW would float.

I think someone from Southeast stole it the first night when they cut the lights.

Later they decorated it as a homecoming float.

Understand it's buried in the field west of the school.

What the heck is that field for anyway.

There's a "new" field at CHHS! Used to be a parking lot when I went there.
Now the students can't afford cars and their parents won't let them borrow the burros...........

If that sign switched in '53 I never would have even SEEN Weber's, much less hung out there in '58 in my '51 Studebaker. They should get their own history straight.

Roya; Fork was about a half block or so west, on the north side od 36h st

There was a Sambo's on N.W. 23rd and Meridian. Just west and on the south
side of the street. There's Chinese restaurant in it's place.

There is a difference, unless you're a southsider. Wasn't there a Dairy Boy or
a Dairy Queen on the N.E. corner?

Right on the address and kinda sorta on the graduation. that was where the Draft inductees were kept before going to Fort Polk, Louisiana which meant Viet Nam to many young Oklahomans....Grant, Southeast, Capitol Hill as well....

In 1967 I had a welfare client who lived there. It was filthy and rundown at that time.
