    Default The Chuckhouse///chicken fried steak

Who is a frequenter of the chuckhouse? If you have never been they have the best chicken fry around. It has been one of my dad's favorites for a looooong time. He introduced me to it at a young age. He and I love chicken fried steak, you just can't beat it with a big pile of mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of fried okra.

What other places do you find a really good chicken fried steak?

Another old favorite was Anne's Chicken fry, used to go there as a kid when we lived in the area, but it closed quite a while back, then reopened and maybe closed a few different times...I drove by a year ago or so seemed like it looked open again, but haven't tried it.

    Momma's
    Ken's in Noble
Original O'Connell's in Norman. not tried the new O'Connell's yet.
Charleston's in Norman (not bad, but it's a distant 4th for me)

While there is something to be said for location, location, location, whenit comes to eateries, good food and good service can overcome sub-par location far more easily than good location can overcome either sub-par food or service.

Charlie - it is located on the strip (N Broadway Ext) that has a reputation for restrauants not lasting very long (from some reason)...when they opened I was very excited (still am), and keep hoping that location doesn't do them in. But we ask them every visit how business is and they seem to be holding their own. It is very good food, and resonably priced as well. The coupons that are printed on your receipt from Crest (in Edmond) generally offer a buy one steak san - get one free.....Can't beat that!!!

Charleston's does have a good chicken fry, but not the best...

There is a Chuck House in Edmond? I have only ever known about the one at Meridian and NW 10th.

    Hey Kevin where is Momma's?

BJ's has a really good one!

I didn't think the location of the Chuck House in Edmond was located on that particular section of Broadway Extension. It's a lot closer to downtown Edmond - like Broadway and 7th street or so. I didn't think the restaurants in that area had such high turnover. The high turnover is in the area south of 33rd.

This is kind-of an odd entry, but I think Lottinvilles has the best chicken-fried steak. It's not cheap, but it's really good - better than Chuck House. Someone else I know thinks Del Rancho has the best. I may not know until they come to Edmond. I'm not driving out of my way to find out.

Her kitchen, which I sometimes get to play in.
Then there is also My Momma's, a lil' kitchen in southeast OK which I don't get back to near often enough.

Oh haha. I thought that was an actual restaurant.

Del Rancho has a really good one, but not quite as good as Chuck House in my opinion.
I am not familiar with Lottinvilles...

Yep - there too.....I was mainly referring to where On-Cue is going in now, which used to be Wiggies (Burgers) and 3 other eateries before that...

It's just Chuck House not The Chuckhouse. And it is the best in the metro along with Cheever's IMO. Chuck House gets the best old fashioned style award and Cheever's get's the best gourmet award for CFS.

We were going to go there before we left to head back to Austin on Sunday but they didn't open until noon so we went to Cajun Kitchen instead. I had my chicken fry fix last night at Hyde Park Grill here in South Austin which is similar in style to the Cheever's. I grew up close to Chuck House and had friends who worked there a long time around high school and after. I still haven't found one as good down here in Austin although Hill's Cafe has a good one, it's just not the same.

I guess you're right. I forgot about those. There has been some turnover in the surrounding buildings in that area too in the past three years (3 years is my reference), now that I think about it. Thanks for the reminder.

I like the Chuck House in Edmond better than the location on 10th street. The seating is much more comfortable. I wish they did more business. They are so nice to us every time we go in there.
