we are planning on going, we will see by tomorrow
I'll be there. With bells on. Well, maybe not bells.
Coit's
2500 S. Western
March 28th at 1:30pm
This is happening TODAY!!!!!
Everyone is welcome to come. Don't be shy. These extremely informal get-togethers are fun and you won't find any friendlier folks.
No one is expected to participate. If you don’t feel you have any memories to share, you can find a spot off to the side and just listen.

Good Vibes Frisky:.....What he has said is so true...You don't have to be a southsider......Coit's is just a place we think of inthe past....
Hey General, be sure to bring some pictures with you. I'd love to get give the southside some love on Welcome to OKCHistory.com. For the rest of you, I'm very interested in old photos showing southside landmarks, restaurants, shops and events. Got a menu from Shipmans? Bring it!
My mom worked at Shipmans for several years. No menu though.
Got any photos? At the very least, jellen, you could be a big help by providing me with stories and color for an addition we'll be making to OKC History in the near future.
I'll be there....may be about 15 minutes late....save me a seat!!
We discussed Dave Clark Five songs today at lunch. Here is a list of some of their hits (1964-1967). Prunepicker, any of these the one you were trying to think of?

Don't forget "Because" my all time favorite. It's soooo romantic.
Ok fill me in what did I miss, sorry guys the grandbabys came by for a visit and had to pinch there little cheeks!
Oh man, I wish I did. My mom used to have some great pix. She could tell me everyone who worked there and how many places Mr. Shipman had in all. She was at the Reno place, there was one on Robinson, one by the Redskin Theatre and just a tiny place that was only open a short time that she'd have to remind me of the location. They had great breakfast ( since she was a breakfast cook :-)) and wonderful biscuits. Nothing else appealed to me.
I'll see what we can find. We kept up with all the Shipman family and many of the folks who worked there through the years.
One more thing. If you are interested in Coit's history, my brother-in-law and his brother began working there in the late 50's as car hops and the brother runs the one of N. Penn now. Coit's was a big Capitol Hill hangout.
Soonergirl26 Catch Us If You Can is the song I couldn't thing of!
I racked my brain over and over!
It was so awesome to see you and the others, today! Gen64 and Frisky,
it was good to see you, too, even though you're a couple of ugly guys
By the way, the loverly and gracious Soonergirl, I tried to send you a PM
and it came back saying you had exceeded your limit of saved messages, or
something. Try cleaning your "sent" folder, or get rid of the 500 messages
I've sent you!
I had a wonderful time at Coit's, today. There were new people and, of
course, the oldtimers!
After the meeting I drove around the southside and had a bunch of memories
come to life. Grant, Jefferson, Millard Fillmore, Heronville, the downtown jail.
I took a few photos. One was the sign at the shopping center on SW 59th
and S Pennsylvania. I can't believe that the Dodson's sign is still there!
Did anyone really go to Prairie Queen? We used to pound their baseball team
like a drum. I think the closest score was 17-3. Oy! The Prairie Queen
Schooners!
I was a carhop there one summer in the mid-60's. A hangout? They did not have inside dinning and often time at lunch you had to keep circling the block hoping that a stall would open. Now when I was in CHHS the hangout was the Spot. Were Hollies and the Spot owned by the same people?
I miss the triple decker with cheese they served at the Spot.
I love doing that. Most of us reading this thread have done it at some point recently.
What does everyone think about taking a Southsider Tour together at some point?
It would be easy to point out all the things we have talked about in the memories threads as we drove past the individual locations.
We could use a large van and all go together.
I think it would be a hoot!!
.
.
Yes, The Spot was the place but we went to Coit's for our hotdogs. I'm from SE but dated and married a CHHS guy. The Black's owned The Spot but not Hollies.
