Not sure if it was Gene or Mike. He may have graduated in '69.

Gene was the hot rod builder and had a lot of cars. He was the grandson of Lawrence Reding who was the son of Old man Reding of the Shopping Center and Southwest Medical Center, which he donated the land to. He also donated the land where St. James Catholic Church and school are on S.W. 41st and Blackwelder, which Gene lived across the street from . I grew up with the entire family.

I was born in october of 1963, in a Hospital that no longer exists,
but the building is still there. Was anyone else here born in
the "Capital Hill General Hospital"? According to my birth Cert.
the Attending Physician was Leonard Rozin. I went to him and
Dr. Opper on S. Pen Many times as a child.

I remember shopping at Browns and Kresses and Langstons, in
capitol hill, with my grandmother. When we shopped at Browns,
I would always try to get the elevator operator to let me "Drive"
the elevator.

They had sales in the basement of Browns, and I remember these
ladies pushing and shoving and grabbing things out of each others
hands.

Like many of you, I got all of my Cub Scout stuff there.

Does anyone remember the fabric Dept. of the Big TG&Y on 74th and Penn
there were all of these old ladies running it, and it seemed that these little
"Half Glasses" held on their neck by a chain were part of the store uniform.

I will always remember shopping for Halloween costumes there, to this day,
I don't think any store has so many halloween costumes to choose from.

I remember my grandmother shopping at Streets in the Reading shopping center, and going to Napoleon Nash with my grandfather.

Dodsons on 59th and Penn was right down the street, and we ate there many times, and they had the bakery to the side, that made the best pies.

I remember when Radio Shack, and Humpty Dumpty were in that same
shopping center.

I also remember always wanting to be at my grandparents when the Jewel Tea man was going to be there.

Any one remember Wilkersons Drive in Mmm Pizza burgers. and Kerns drive in on 44th and Agnew More Mmm broasted chicken, and the best soft Serve ice cream in the world.

I also remember a root beer stand between where the National Guard Armory and the animal hospital are there on 44th, they made homemade root beer there, and it was really good.

When I was older, and went to Grant high school, we used to go to
LOuSY Tacos (it was actually Los Tacos, but we always joked that the
cactus logo looked like a "Y", and just added the rest on our own. I'm
glad to see them back over at SW 44th and May, in the old Carls Jr.

I was in 5th grade and being bussed to Harmony, when the theater
and shopping center on 44th and May was being built. I was our
bus stop.

I was reading the closed thread on the south side, and was reminded of
Billies Tastee Freeze on 59th and May, we used to drive over there at
lunch, and get burgers when I was at Grant.

Does anyone remember the McDonalds on S. Penn being where the
Grant Square bank Drive through is there on 44th and Penn, before they
moved to 59th and Penn? The building looked like a What-A-Burger, with the A Frame design, but it was painted bright colors.

What else, Rudys IGA And Kens IGA, Glass bottled Soda, and all of the
stores having a bottle return area.

My Parents sneaking my sister and I in to 14 flags drive in in the trunk of the car, when we were really young.

That's it for now, I think I'll have more later, alot of dust and cobwebs are
are getting shook loose.

I was born in Capital Hill General Hospital in 1947 and also used Dr. Leonard Rozin as my family practioner after I was grown and married! He died year before last. He was working at a rest home on about S.W. 35th and Harvey where my Dad was at! Rozin worked til' the day he died....

My brother was born there in '44. We lived in Norman at the time, but it was going to be a difficult birth wherein one or both might die, Dr Berry, decided that there needed to be more backup than was available in his clinic, which was the precursor of Norman General. Both lived.

The big thing back when I was a teen was to go to ski Island for the christmas lights where all the rich folk lived. It seemed like it was at the edge of the earth to get out there and now look, it is just up the road a bit.

When we moved to OKC, from Prunepickerland, the Santa BC Clark's was one
of the first commercials I remember seeing. Of course it was in B&W.

I hate commercials. Once they enter your brain they never leave.
