Thread: Red Prime

  1. Default Re: Red Prime

I had Red Prime a few weeks ago for the first time. It is amazing! My new favorite restaurant in OKC-- if only I had more money to spend there! Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. tuck, I don't know if you are the chef, owner, or what, but I congratulate you on such a great restaurant.

I'm planning on going tomorrow night to celebrate some good news at work. Taking my mother and it'll be the first time for both. Any suggestions??? Mom likes a ribeye, and I like a leaner cut, if that helps...

My favorite is the kobe skirt steak w/black pepper crust. For a leaner cut, stay with the tenderloin. I always recommend trying all of the sauces or order 2 per person...kinda fun.

OKCMallen, the truffle butter is a must try on your steak! Also order the green chili mac, it is to die for.

    And done!

Thanks guys. I've been eager to get to Red for a while! I feel confident walking in now that I won't mis-order! The hard part will be picking the wine now...

Haha, you're right, I misspoke. Er, mistyped. Now I won't be intimidated by the unfamiliar choices!

Completely awesome. I actually prefer Iron Starr's mac. Had the dry aged strip with maytag bleu cheese rub and truffle butter. Dear Lord, the truffle butter with the meat was amazing. Last night was a 9.5/10 experience. The waiter was very average, and we ordered a brandy ice that had huge chunks of ice in it. But that's just nitpicking. It was badass.

I LOVE the fancy mac & cheese from Iron Starr!

Agree! In the South, Red Velvet is a staple cake along with fresh Coconut Cake.

Did the fixed price meal last night. People, at $35, it's a freaking steal.

I went there the other day it is great. It is in an old Buick building I believe it was made in 1910. Great food and great service.

This thread is immediately what I thought of for a nice place to take my wife for dinner for our anniversary tomorrow. I see lots of good suggestions for what to order.

Do you all recommend this place as a nice place to have a simple anniversary dinner for 2?

Of course; ask for booth #7 if you are wanting privacy.

Absolutely, you can't go wrong at Red, best restaurant in the metro. Can't order a bad meal there either. Prepare to spend at least $100 if you want to do it right. And order the truffle butter on your steak, can't go wrong! Or as tuck says, order 2-3 sauces and try several. Here is a recent video with the owner/operator Keith Paul. They will treat you right at RED!

Please...that's not a reason for someone not to patronize the city's nicest or one of the nicest restaurants. It's not like that is an everyday occurance and if it was, I'm sure the city's elite would stop eating there and the place wouldn't be open very long. That could have happened at any restaurant.

No, you're right...it's not an everyday occurance. My job has taken me into restaurants from Idabel to Kenton and from a cowboy cookout on the banks of the Red River in SW Oklahoma to Miami and this was the ONLY place I've ever had anything ripped off.

I'm going to request you stop posting in this thread. That can happen anywhere and you attributing it to Red is ridiculous.

I'll agree it's a great place for an anniversary. I spent mine there just after they opened and we had a wonderful evening. However, let me offer another man's opinion on the sauces/toppings. I don't believe any have improved my steak. I just prefer them without. Perhaps I'm not choosing correctly. Their quality of beef is high enough not to warrant a topping. Now, if I were offered one at Western Sizzlin, bring it on!

Looks like I'll take Mrs. Bigjkt405 there tomorrow for our anniversary. She mentioned another restaurant, but I want to try Red Prime (plus its just up the street from my job and our house)....

I'm trying to decide if I want to eat at Red or Micky Mantel's.

This is a fair statement. The meat can speak for itself.

Or, also, I liked the Maytag Bleu Cheese "rub" on my steak, but after that, it definitely didn't need ANY sauce.

The truffle butter is divine....black pepper crust (ask them to go easy on the crust) and truffle butter and you're in great shape.

    Well where do I start.

The food was simply awesome. Booth #7 was perfect for an evening of reflection of a long 3 years...lol.

We started with a the lump meat crab cakes which were delicious. I then ordered the Iceberg bowl, and my wife the french onion soup. Both were excellent, although the bleu cheese crumbles along with house bleu cheese dressing was a little too bleu cheesy for me. it was still a great salad, in fact me and wife switched appetizers halfway through. For dinner I ordered the 7oz filet, with the cracked pepper crust and truffle butter sauce. Simply amazing. She ordered the sirloin with brown sugar and sea salt, along with a brandy mushroom sauce I believe. She enjoyed it. And for the first time in 3 months (cut sugar intake to 0) I had dessert, and the salted caramel along with cake was delicious.

Just this morning I've recommended this place to several co-workers and family members. We will be back soon.
