Where is the bar code?
"Also at this meeting, the representative from the Department of Public Safety stated that their only remaining concern would be that the fonts used for display of the assigned license plate numbers and letters be established in a method by which law enforcement personnel could clearly distinguish the difference between such letters and numbers"

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR; see also other names below) is a mass surveillance method that uses optical character recognition on images to read the licence plates on vehicles. As of 2006, systems can scan number plates at around one per second on cars travelling up to 100 mph (160 km/h).[citation needed] They can use existing closed-circuit television or road-rule enforcement cameras, or ones specifically designed for the task.

Gotta love the litlle bar code (bottom right) on the new tags!
They should have put that on our State Quarter instead of the bird...
Joe
The new tags are horrible!
I just got mine in the mail today!!! I'm a happy camper. Looks soooooooooooooo much better than the old plate!

Lame.
I didn't think it was a particularly good time in the economy to pay for new plates for everyone. That being said, I don't know that anyone equates that statue with Oklahoma, even if it is kind of cool. Also I think its time to let go of the "Native America" moniker - the only reason its Native America is because people were forced here from their real native lands...
waste of money...
1) These plates are phased in. The state isn't forcing everyone to get a new plate. It is optional but us automatically issued with a newly purchased vehicle. Thus, no cost difference. Just a new design.
2) There were already Native Americans here before the trail of tears. Your point?
Continue the Renaissance!!!
Even then the your old number would have been issued on the new plates. This was mainly done to meed FHA reflectivity standards.
Am I the only one who noticed a bar code on the bottom right hand corner? I did some research and the only thing that is contained within this bar code is the License Plate Number.
There were Native Americans here well before the Indian Removals. In addition to some primitive tribes there were Caddos, Wichitas, some Cheyenne, Pawnee (those could be some mean suckers!), Apache, Arapaho and Commanche. I am not sure when the Kiowa came in. The Osage migrated here, early, as did some of the Cherokee.
I didn't notice a barcode. Maybe it was put there for Obama's plan to tax our mileages?
Don't care for them. Wish the design were more encompassing/a reflection of the diversity of Oklahomans, now.
Then why does my cousin still have her old plate with a 2010 sticker?
And as far as Native Americans are concerned, trail of tears or not, they are an indigenous part of Oklahoma's heritage, like it or not. Leave the cowboys to Texas. Leave the rednecks to the confederate South.
And if America still believes teepees are common housing in Oklahoma, it only goes to show how stupid our country really is. And it IS a stupid country.
Continue the Renaissance!!!
When I moved to an area with a very low Native American population, I was surprised at how much I missed the "look" of many NA. Moreover, the NA culture and spirituality, is really missing. Obviously, not all NA look alike and they certainly don't have a religion that is common to all. I'm not saying that. Still, there is definitely something missing in areas where the native american influence, particularly plains Indians, is missing.
I've got a university plate, so I don't give a crap! LOL! But seriously, it's about a billion times better than those old pieces of crap we had. At least they're doing SOMETHING.
We are more known for Indians than a lot of states, but if you watch the tourism commercials, "Native America" is not a specific reference to that, but to the natural terrain and the spirit of the people.
I think it's one of the best (if not THE best) state mottos.
And if you think it's too generic, look at Arkansas: "The Natural State". I mean it fits them, but you could apply that to a lot of states.
Don't Edmond My Downtown
I'm assuming that some tag agencies didn't have them at the very beginning of the year - I've seen a few, but not many old ones with 2010.
I don't think we should ignore our heritage, but I do think we are a lot more than that and that its been overplayed a bit when Oklahoma doesn't hold a patent on Native Americans. I don't know that the country is stupid, but some of the people certainly are.
