What station was on the S.W. corner of 25th and South Western. Had the biggest line of cars in town when a gas war hit about 59 or 60 !! Gas was .15 per gallon and they were lined up south down Western for about 3 blocks! It normally was only about .21 to .25 cents anyway..

yep, you're 100% right on that one....Since YOU are NEW to the thread did you ever eat or go to Ellen's Grille?...It's been talked about before but, it seems everyone has a memory of it. Did you go to Grant ? If so when did you graduate???(if you did)
I spent a good portion of my life in Ellen's Grille, even got free Cheeseburgers, guess they felt sorry for a kid who had to eat out all the time. And I graduated from U.S. Grant in 1965....Maybe even helped buy the Cannon.

You must have known Danny Parker and Max Weldon... you know, it's been almost 40 years since Danny was killed in Viet Nam.....Sure miss his quirky ways.
June 9th, 1969 .... He left for over there on April of '69 ...landed on May 9th of '69 and killed a month later.....Good guy. If you helped buy the Cannon then your purchase has been talked about numerous times on this thread...I probably know who you are.....

I knew Danny very well, we were best friends. Knew Max Weldon and his cousins the Andres brothers etc. Danny was in my living room drinking beer with me 3 weeks before he died. We went to 7-11 and on our way back to my house he made the statement that he would probably be one of those guys that came back in a plastic bag. His in-laws had me Verify to the rest of the family that it was really him, not very pleasant. But that is all history now. We MUST know each other?

Got to:....I was the first to see him at the funeral Home and it tore me inside out. They were waiting for someone (with the family) to verify and they thought it was me. When they realized I wasn't he one they escorted us out of the sanctuary very rapidly....He lived across the street from me all of his life...I'll figure out who you are...and we'll remember him and the others we both must have know that died in Viet Nam....

Between him and this new Guy (Carlton's Keeper) and Red/Gen it's going to be hard to out do. But, you won on this one from me however, do you remember the Root Beer Stand (eventually Mexican joint) that was just South of 29th/Penn? If you do, what was the original name of that establishment?.... also, do you remember the name of the Lumber yard that was where Fox Lumber (25th/May) is right Now?....Where was the Jelly factory on the South side of town????

You guys are reaching way back. You're hitting around my old stomping grounds but just a little before my time. I do remember having to go to the ice plant (29th & Kentucky) to get ice. And I know that now you can see guys pushing two wheel carts through the neighborhoods selling tamales and what not. But guys did that when I was alot younger also. Use to have great tamales. I remember milkmen leaving bottles on milk and cartons of eggs on doors step.

Surely SoonGirl has seen the new thread. I hope.

The only tamale guys I remember back in the '50s were all downtown. Mom wouldn't let eat them, but she sure made us eat the crap that came in cans. Mom, you were NUTS.

guess on the lumber yard Cullen
jelly factory was Zesta memory serves me correct west side between
    25th and 29th

from an earlier post on south accross 25th street was orginallyorginally was
a Fina station (home of the chicken man attenna toppers) then was a (think) Tastetee freeze ( remeber they had 2 flaovors of dip cones
choclate & butterscotch ) Then a large factory type building, Earlly on seems like it was furniture factory (remeber wood shavings piled up )
then it was a candy factory. Bunte comes to mind, (bleasher creature section at all sports stadium) but Im not sure if that's right.
