I have a T.G.&Y. story I'd like to tell. I used to work for Central Repair which was the maintenance arm of T.G.&Y.. One day I had some work to do on the roof of the store at N.W. 63rd & May.
So, I set up an extension ladder, climbed on the roof and did the work. When I was done I went to the ladder to come down and (guess what?) the ladder had fallen down. Next I looked all over for a place to get down, no dice. Then I started hollering down at people in the parking lot to maybe get someone to set the ladder back up.That didn't work because it was real windy (imagine that in OKC) and the people would look all around but never look up.This was before cell phones. Finally I took some conduit I had on the roof and bent a hook in it then coupled together enough to reach the ladder and stand the ladder back up. I finally got down , near froze up(cold that day) and went about my business as usual. "What a day!!"

We had a smart aleck at 74th one day.....his ladder disappeared while he was on the roof....we remembered he was up there later on that evening....he wasn't quite as smart after that.....I also remember the stockboys building a facade of cardboard in the stockroom for a place to SLEEP......that old store was so big they were never missed...right village idiot????
Man, I was digging around liooking for some things and found some of the Old Blue TG&Y Nylon Baskets.....and one of the old...old....small TG&Y shopping carts...man, that dates me a lot....This shopping cart is so small you could put it completely in your car trunk.....SHEEEEE......How many millions of people had pushed that thing around?
I am working on a house for my Deer hunting place and was scrapping an old house out when I found some of the Last REAL TG&Y Ads.....1986...If I can figure it out I would like to post them...let you know later...
Not too good at figuring out how to work this computer....Oh Well, most of you have seen the ads of '86 anyway...Remember Easter is coming up on us....Colored Chicks, colored Ducks, Rabbits (plenty of poop) and of coursse the Easter Bunny.....However, what happened to the real reason of Easter????
that was one thing about TG&Y (old days) we always made sure to have a good stock of Bibles during this season.....By the way, Jesus (Jim Caviezal sp) is coming to Victory church on March 8th, I think...Free Admission.....I'll make sure of the date and let everyone know....
wonder where all those turtles came from that were painted on their backs???wonder where they all are now?????Hmmmmmhow about that Hamster you or your little brother/sister got...and it eventually got out and mated with the field mice......Hmmmmwonder if they got their "running wheel" from TG&Y.....Wal-Mart wasn't there then.....
I remember those critters! How'd they color them? Food coloring?
I guess the same thing is happening to Easter as with Christmas. It's up to
us keep spreading the Word of Jesus. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life. John 3:16

Speaking of Rednecks, the Westboro Baptist Church was in Moore yesterday protesting about something and nobody knows what it was about...But, they seemed to have picked the WRONG REDNECK TOWN to bring their cause to....They lost .....Moore won.....Praise GOD
Hey 64', was there a TG&Y in the Grant Square shopping center? I have a memory of buying Johnny Cash, ring of fire album there in about 1964. Was for my bd. Thanks in advance.

The original Variety Store in Grant Square was a Woolworth store with the fountin and everything. They (Woolworth) were trying to see if they could compete in TG&Y's back yard....Didn't work:....The store closed and TG&T took over the lease and the first actual Expanded Variety store was established there. Fairly good store under TG&Y's Supervision. The store manager there for the longest was a man by the name of Lynn Rhodes who weny on to Family Dollar Stores....when they (TG&Y) closed the store....
what is a woolworths.....is that a place where you would sell your pelts and wool products?
