Thread: NetFlix

  1. Default NetFlix

Did you know you can watch movies now instantly on your computer or TV... I put mine through XBOX 360 - Video Marketplace... works like a charm.

I'm on the Two Week Free Trial ( again, lol) ... it's $8.99 a month ... you get One disk in the mail but thousands of movies you can watch Instantly.

They aren't all New Releases but there are plenty of movies to keep you busy for a LOONGGG time!

Currently, I have Hollywood Video MVP at close to $28 bucks a month.. that's 2 movies at a time Unlimited, no late fees.

I'll give Netflix a chance and see if I like it better than Hollywood .. but thought I'd pass on the info for those not knowing about the Instant Watch.

A guy was talking about this on another forum I visit. If I understood him correctly, he was also watching episodes of network tv shows. He had cancelled his cable and was watching everything after-the-fact. He seemed to like it because it allowed him to pay for only those things he wanted to watch. I'll have to admit that while I like the idea of watching movies this way (like you're doing), I'm not sure I want it to replace my cable tv. There's too many times when I run across something interesting (and learn something in the process) that I might not have chosen to watch had I been selecting from a menu.

I've been watching several tv shows on Hulu less commercials

That sounds more like Pay Per View or something similar.

With Netflix, you only pay $8.99 a month and all the Instant Plays stream free. Yes, they have TV shows too.

Actually, they have 19 pages of TV shows.. including British, Made for TV movies, Hannah Montana, Caliou, Hero's, Weeds, etc etc..

I'm nearing the end of my 2-week Netflix trial and I'm finding that the TV instant streaming doesn't replace cable. It doesn't really replace network TV either, although you can do that in large part just by visiting the networks' websites. (If I could only find last week's Law & Order episode...)

One thing I have noticed is that they'll have like one or two seasons of a show available through the instant streaming option and you have to get the rest on DVD. But they do a great job of having all those great shows from way back. We're watching the Love Boat. Don't ask...

They do have some great documentaries too. We watched an interesting one not too long ago (streaming) on Frank Lloyd Wright's homes. They have a number of Ken Burns' documentaries.

Of course, you can always visit the library and see a number of these for free.

No, it wouldn't replace Cable... but I'm talking about replacing the Hollywood Video or Blockbuster monthly fee..

I pay close to $28 at HV...

Hulu.com has been pretty good for recent episodes of BSG. I haven't really done a comparison of it and NETFLIX, other than that FIREFLY is on both. I like Netflix because even on $7.99 a month I can usually get 8 DVDs a month, plus whatever I stream. Usually a 2 day turn-around for most movies.

I wonder if the thought police will show up at my doorstep if I request this:
The Tin Drum: Bonus Material (1979)

Also included is the documentary "Banned in Oklahoma"

I like Hollywood Video, but $28 a month is pretty steep. The advantage there is not having to wait for the mail, but saving $20 every month might be worth that. The turnaround time for DVDs in the mail is pretty impressive and if you do 2 DVDs at a time (depending on how you use your queue) you could eliminate your wait time almost completely. I can go through 2 DVDs a week if I really work at it on the one-at-a-time plan. However, I read some reports awhile (a long while) back that Netflix was slowing down the mailing process for its longer term customers. I don't know if this is still going on or not.

I watch what I miss online or if I want to watch an episode a second time. But as of now, streaming video is not going to replace my Dish. The quality alright for a normal sized monitor but it's just not there if blown up to around 40" or bigger.

I can't see having a monthly membership at Hollywood or anyplace unless you rent alot of videos per month. I still do the per rental basis. Family Video seems to have pretty good prices as far as per rent prices go.

I really like Netflix. It's better then going to Blockbuster and dealing with them being out of something. I have the 3 at a time plan so that way if I watch something and send it in I still have 2 others to watch. They have a great selection with both dvd and blu rays available. You can keep them as long as you need to which is nice as well.

I'm talking about Hollywood Video rentals vs Netflix.

I hadn't noticed a problem with quality.. like I said, I upload to my Xbox 360 and it's in the Market Place .. then I click play and it's on my 60' Mitisbishi - I can pause, stop, rewind and watch it as many times as I need to.

You can watch on your TV or Computer if you have XBOXLive
