Thread: What are they building next to the Route 66 park

Default What are they building next to the Route 66 park

Back in Yukon for a few days visiting a friend in the hospital and noticed a parking area was being built next to the route 66 park by Lake Overholser? Does anyone know what is going in there?

I think that is technically in Oklahoma City. If not can a mod move this to the correct forum?

    Thanks!

What area are you talking about Markar? The parkland there is about 150 acres, and there is park-related construction going on at present. Can you be more specific where this construction is located, as it relates to the current park amenities?

It's the next phase of many for Route 66 Park, it's a skate park/parking lot.

Thanks FritterGirl. There's what looks like a parking lot going in just west of the present park area right along 23rd. I think there's an oil well almost directly behind that area.

Didn't get a good view as it was almost dark when we drove past it yesterday.

Thanks Daniel. You answered while I was typing. All kinds of cool stuff coming in after I moved.

danielf is correct. If that is the area you are talking about, it is being planed for a new "skate court / plaza" to be introduced at Route 66. It is one of many projects slated for Route 66 over the next several years and one of two new "skate plaza" areas to be introduced for Summer 2009. The other will be at South Lakes park.

These two new skate plaza/courts will be designed for more of the beginning/intermediate boarder/skater and will be largely above ground; not like the Mat Hofffman Action Skate Park, which is a specialty area.

Can anybody tell me the name of the bar with all the stuffed animals in it at Lake Overholser? It used to be a cool place to hang on Sunday afternoons.

My Bad, the bar is no longer in existence, is was located at the NE corner of the Lake at 39th and E. Overholser Drive, it was torn down several years ago.
