Well now with steve and barry's closing, Crossroad's only anchor store will be Dillards. Has anyone else heard of plans of them remodeling the mall? I;ve heard it from a few different people but wasn't too sure.
One of our employees at our store down at Crossroads Mall went in to Dillards & they have signs up saying their last day of operation will be 12/29/08. If you want some decently priced items for Christmas, now you know where to go.
Steve & Barry's...we're waiting...
That's odd. I thought it had been confirmed their lease wasn't up for a couple years.
I was in Dillard's there about a month ago to look at their furniture. Just about all the furniture was gone. I asked the employee from the furniture department if Dillards was closing. He said the store would be fully closed in two years and they are phasing out some departments now. He said the furniture department was first and the rest of the third floor was next. Maybe things have changed.
I asked a friend that works in the mall and he confirmed the 29th.
That is so hard to believe. I grew up going to that mall as a kid. I only go there maybe one time a year now at most. It's sad what has happend to Crossroads over the last 10 to 15 years. I have a lot of memories from that place.
Why don't they just use it for the Factory Outlet Mall instead of building a new one?
i think it is plausible that diillards last day of operation may be 12/29/2008... i've heard that the place is going to be properly converted into a dillard's outlet store whereas the makeup counters, etc. will be removed.

Yep it's true about the Crossroads Dillards last day is 12/29/08. Right now a lot of things are 40% off, some tables are 75%. Fragrances have yet to be discounted.
With Dillard's closing and Steve and Barry's on thin ice at the corporate level, I just do not see how the mall can stay open.
Crossroads Mall needs to closed ASAP. It is no longer fun shopping there because it is full of wanta be gang members walking around in groups and badly dressed teenagers walking around making loud noise in groups. It is sort of scary now.
It would be a good location for a new Sams Store?
Crossroads just needs to refocus. It needs to become an outlet mall. An upscale outlet mall like the ones in Dallas and Park City.
Is someone gonna set up a huge event to gather thousands of people for a funeral rememberance of this mall? We need speakers, music, videos, photos, everything. Maybe that will scare the management?
I agree that Crossroads is dead as a retail center whether as a mall or outlet mall. People do not want to drive there anymore to shop. The retail market has moved to south Moore and Norman. Can the owners use the building for something else besides retail and make a profit? I don't know the answer to that. I hope they can because the building is a landmark for South OKC.
The mall is surrounded by
1) a landfill
2) a trashy red light district
3) a lot of vacant, run down retail space
In addition, the surrounding neighborhoods are not "upscale" and do not have the demographics to support upscale retail.
That area of town, just plain sucks. It reminds of a small town that used to be popular. Just bulldoze all of that area and start over. LOL
This all makes me truly sad. I worked at Orbach's in Crossroads (very similar to Harolds for those that don't remember) all through college.
I remember driving down there when I turned 16 to buy some jeans at The Gap and thinking it was as an incredible trip from the NW side of town. And I remember being in awe of the place, as it was the first large enclosed mall I had ever seen. It was really a source of pride for the entire city for quite a while.
It's very hard to imagine how it will ever get things turned around. I fear it will continue to die a slow death and ultimately become a huge white elephant.
Yes, it's been badly managed and it's a sign of the changing times, but it still makes me blue.
Pete the mall is horrid. I go to DEB and to find there is no more men clothes!!!
