Oh Yeah, I have been looking for old yearbooks to get the answers of all the shop teachers....try to get them done tonight. However, I am looking for a 1958 Redskin Year Book or 1958 U.S. Grant Yearbook for a friend of mine if anyone has one for sale or trade.

Funny story about Ronny Kaye, I was working at Jack Clark crysler and plymouth when his wifes car came in on a wrecker with all the widows broke out and dents all over the car. We thought it was hail damage, apparently Ronny got pissed off at his wife and beat the crap outta the car with a hammer or bat I dont really recall.

No, Pat Molitari (sp) was the main female dancer on the show. About 6 of the couples of the show were actually on contract with Dick Clark because of their popularity.....I can't remember the guys name but he was always a Greasey Duck Tail kind of a guy. Remember the Ducktail Haircut....or a "Boogie" how about Wdges...I'm sure you had a pair and you probaly got them at Levines....Then you probably had Continental and Horseshoe taps on them...Got your rear busted once or twice slidding down the Grant Hallways.....Do you remember what Huffman did before he was a principal? What was his (Huffman) favorite snack for school time?

The Big Dipper is still in use in (I think) Ohio at a small amusement park. If you go out to Frontier City at their Roller Coaster there is a picture and the entire story about The Big Dipper. I don't remember the arcade situation but I sure liked going in there and in the Fun House...Remember the sack slide? and, how many times did you just stand out front to watch the girls dresses get blown up?...I heard the train ended up in someones personal collection....Did you ever soap down the tracks and watch the wheels spin and the train go nowhere? It was "funny" until you got kicked out of the park two hours too soon.....and you had to wait outside until your mom came and then you couldn't tell anyone.....

There was a theater on N. Hudson, just south of 12th, called the Uptown. At one
time there was the Overholser Oprea House on either Main or Grand Avenue (now
Sheridan).

Does anybody know when Grand Avenue was changed to Sheridan?

All right, I've spent the past few days in Galveston going through the devastation and muck and mire....Was really glad to get back to OKC South side addition. Prunepicker...where and when is this month's gathering?. I am going to go into the cavernous dark hole (attic) and find the year books and get this teacher names right. I know that we have the books from '61-67....from dear grant high.....Oh yeah, I have found the irresistable Grant Dispatch.....did any of you guys have a car in the school newspaper?...I didn't get my car in but it came in 2nd one time...('58 Thunderbird) my senior year....Bobby Tyler (now deceased) had a brand new 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport....He won....Bobby lived down the street from me for all of our growing up years...Miss him.
Anyone remember what Mr. Fuller drove at Grant?......

What are some of the businesses or careers that have either vanished or
are near extinction?

Here are some that I've been thinking about.

1. Dairy farms.
2. Fountain pen, lighter and watch repair. There used to be a man in the
Municipal auditorium that did that for a living! Try that now! Although watch
repair isn't out, yet.
3. Fuller Brush man. Some people went their whole life selling Fuller brushes.
4. Shoe salesmen that knew how to fit you. Does anybody remember the days
when you'd have 9 on your right foot and an 8 1/2 on the left?
5. Sign painters.
6. Telegraph / telegram delivery.
7. Peddlers, similar to Fuller Brush. Jewel Tea comes to mind but there'd be
guys walking the neighborhood selling everything.

There must be a million others.

Well, it looks like the old southsiders are slowly regressing into their shells and not remembering the good days and good ole times. I know that someone out there in Cyber land has stories that would make all of us remember things that maybe we should or shouldn't want to remember...If you have to surf the Web (whtever that means) to get the answers then get after it...My old times memories were pretty cool....You guys have posted some of the best laughs I have had in a long time.....I still remember the dirt roads on the southside, the Danes at Schoo, (Howdy week)....Rainbow dances....getting our butts beat in football but still enjoying it. I remember the Friday Night after Kennedy was shot the band had to perform at Capitol Hill Stadium...Everyone was so somber that you could cut the air with a knife and then it seems as though we pulled together as a school and knew that we had been part of History and that we really didn't know what to expect with this place called Viet Nam. However, many of classmates served over there and some gave their all but, that's what the Southside of OKC was about.... We began to relive our lives and do the things that teenagers do in their lives once JFK was put to rest. Dates, Cokes, Drag Races, Football,and all the other school functions. I remember the class of '64 gave an organ and the big thing was whether or not we were giving a Male or Female organ...Get it?????Then the class of '65 started something called "WOB" never have figured that one out. Then we began to reminisce about the future....The least likely succeeded and most likely didn't. The ugliest became the best looking.....What stories are still left out there buried in the backs of the minds of a bunch of Old Southside Ruffians????Share them with the rest of us even if we have to go and look them up somewhere else...See ya next time:.................

All right, let's dig through the cobwebs and see if any of this rattles and cages. I'd like us to reach 15,000 views before the South goes back to sleep. This thread has been phenominal (sp) in the short time that it began. See if any of these work for anyone.
1. Remember (if you can) the snow that came in the early fifties and the sixties and yet school was never let out. How many Snow forts were built and how many rocks were put in (accidentally) snow balls during the snowball fight.
2. When all the old shopping centers were around, No one dared to put out Christmas decorations until Friday after Thanksgiving. I remember the good old time and a half if we work on Thanksgiving afternoon....made 90 cents an hour then...(after time and a half).
3. What did you pay for your first driver's license????not you guys that bought yours at the local Wal-Mart
4. Do you remember the paperboys on their Mustang motorscooters and Cushman Eagles?? Gosh, I wanted a cushman so bad....broke both arms (two seperate accidents) on another guys scooter...didn't really need one.
5. How late on New Year's Eve did you stay up (Really) and listen to the oldies from the previous year? Tried to stay awake the next whole day...duh ...how dumb can you get.
6. Remember the pony pictures Everybody had to have made? Still have mine (hidden of course.....) I convinced the guy to let me ride the pony...he told me that for every kid I got to line up for their picture I got to ride the pony one time around the house. There were 5 girls that lived next door.. and the other side there were six kids...you got it, I told them I thought he was giving away pictures.....(He might have been).
7. How many of your parents HAD to plant a garden? I think it was to show us the correct procedure to use a chopping Hoe....For you younger guys...It's not the same kind of hoe you're thinking about.

Come on Southside. There's got to be a few more stories out there.....
