Thread: Gas

  1. Arrow Gas

Heads up, KFOR reported that overnight (right now at time of this post) gas prices at some places is dropping down to as low as $3.

There a site, forgot the name, that you can check for the locations of the lowest prices. I'm sure it won't last long, but the timing is great for most of us recently gotten our paycheck.

Don't forget to check the pumps to make sure there is no destructive ethanol.

Wow....down almost a dollar from the $4/gal. it was earlier this year. I guess 25% of the Chinese and Indians quit using gas.

This map shows how Oklahoma gas prices compare to the rest of the nation

    USA National Gas Temperature Map

Never in a million years did I think we would be celebrating $2.99 gas, but compared to a lot of places we are some lucky dogs here in Oklahoma.

No kidding! What about all those poor souls in the southeastern part of the U.S. where they've got higher prices AND very low supplies? That's adding insult to injury.

When you look at this site (http://www.oklahomacitygasprices.com/), most of the cheapest stations are 10% ethanol. All of the Flying Js, 7-Elevens, Love's, Pilots, Walmart (Murphy USA) and Sams (Murphy USA) contain Ethanol (10%).

I'll bet those people who bought a new Chrysler this summer and traded all their rebates for $2.99 gas are feeling kinda dumb now.

Don't think that stations can put more than 10-15% ethanol

Are you talking about the promotional $2.99 gas for a year (maybe more) by Chrysler and Dodge?

They will only be dumb if they choose stations with ethanol. Some of them may be smart and choose stations with gas only, so that is quite a deal for $2.99.

If gas only drops under $2.99, then they don't have to use the dealership's gas card at the time.

  16. Default Re: Gas

$2.59 at 7-11 on my way home this evening. It seems to be dropping about 10 cents every 8-12 hours.

I work with two people who claim that they actually get better mileage (7-10 mi) with ethanol than without. I would guess that it all depends on the vehicle.

In mine, I see maybe 1-2 miles per gallon better without it. That increase is not worth the 20-30 cents more per gallon I would pay for 100% gasoline.

A 7-10 mpg difference seems unlikely in either direction, but 1-2 mpg in your case does. I wouldn't pay the difference either. I won't even drive more than a mile out of my way to get cheaper gas unless it's a huge price difference. I did the math - it makes no sense to drive 5 miles for a 10-cent savings.

I'm still trying to decide whether the ethanol is making a difference in my mileage or not. Good thing there's a no-ethanol station close to work.

You also got to consider the effect of ethanol it will have on the engine. Mine runs smoother without ethanol, so I know the effects of ethanol for my car is harmful.

    Gas - 2 weeks.
    Gas w/ ethanol - 1 week.

I wouldn't begrudge them of their natural resources, and the riches and the higher standard of living we so generous give them.

But ethanol isn't a cure!! it just drives up the prices of food.

Go to the pickensplan.com see what he has in mind, and give it thought.
I wondered if instead of the 700$ bln in the "rescue/bailout" if we shoud have done something about giving a new cng vehicle or a tax rebate to homeowners to install a cng "pump" in their homes or something that will stop the flow of our money to OPEC.
But as long as there is motorists who like the drive thurs, and gas is under 5$ a gallon, we'll forget it just like it was in the 70's.

I saw a story on KFOR about the state feeling the impact of low gas prices... Some people saying that low gas prices isn't good for the state...

Okay, did I miss something? Were taxes knocked off? I'm sure the taxes is still there on the prices. Wonder why the state is whining?
