I used the farm ponds south of 104th on Penn and the pond at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

Hey! I fished the HGCC lakes, too. I remember catching a good sized bullhead, a
type of catfish for you Yankees. Buster used to chase us off the course about 7 times a week.

I wonder if he died young because of me? OY!

Oh, the money we'd made gathering practice range balls. Heck, when we were
finished, we'd go to the 7/11 on 59th and get a quart of chocolate milk and a
bag of corn candy!

Hey you guys, just came home from the land of "IKE".....Redskin, you're very right
about Jerry Fisher (class of '61). He made one album with Blood, Sweat and Tears....He owned a club in Bay St. Louis until Katrina blew it away he said he was taking the Insurance money and moving to Colorado...where I think he is now. I can't believe you knew Gayla.....You probably knew my sister also they were Grade School friends..."I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". Chebon Dacon was one of the best QB Capitol Hill...C.B.Speegle was one of the top winning southside coaches especially in Capitol Hill's Dynasty years....Old Fair Grounds was where Douglass is now. I only remember going there a few times before they moved it (1957) to the present site and Oklahoma's Semi-Centennial. You know, we have quite a few people watching this Thread...Let's keep it going.....Do you remember Johnny Hughes????? One-hit Wonder (Johnny blues). Also, did you ever go to the Kiwanis Club Dances back in the 50's?


Let me know:.....Houston is a mess but, Galveston is no more...I bought 30,000 pounds of coffee and about 20,000 shirts. All of it is beginning to break lose down there....

1. As Mr. Prunepicker said, started at the North edge of the eastern Bridge about
about N.E. 4th and ran towards N.E. 10th on the east side of the street !!

2. Gayla Peevey/aka/Jamie Horton made her claim to "Fame" with Xmas song in
1953 (9 years old) "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and recorded about
two dozen songs under both names. She moved to California (land of fruits nd
Nuts) and still lives there. Only messin' with ya' there Mr. Prunepicker. She
graduated and became a teacher there, then went into the real estate and
last I
heard she owned an Advertising or real estate business of her own... The sick
part of all this is that I have every recording she or her "Sound Alike" Jimmy
Boyd who's claim to fame was "Kitty in a Basket" ever made.

3. Chebon Dacon was QB football player for Capitol Hill in 66 & 67, now he is an
Indian Artist selling his paintings out of the back of his pick up truck.

4. Like the fellow already said, which Speegle are you refering to? C.B. was the
most famous and two of his three sons did pretty well. One son (which may
be dead now?) owned the Points After Club at about 61st and South Western
for many years..


5. You do realize Don Todd the Band Director who passed away last April got his
start in Thailand playing the flute as a "Snake Charmer." Rumor has it that he
lost his first wife due to Generals64 more charming appeal !! Only kidding you
G64 !

6. None other than Mrs. Mary Manning, music teacher and one "NICE LADY."

7. Well "Dangle My Participle" who would have THUNK of such a woman. I
actually knew her before she was married and lived in a duplex just south of
of Yount's Super Market and drove a 2 door 57 Chevy Del Ray. She was a lot
nicer out of the classroom..

8. Word has it that the Grant General in the front Foyer somehow wound up in
Generals64's living room mounted on the fire place Hearth with it's head
starring
up at a Moosehead !! Don't worry though, it's not going anywhere because
legend has it that it's mounted securely to a large piece of MOON ROCK which
was "Presidentially Presented" to the new owner. It sit's next to a empty
shell casing which is said to be the one fired by Lee Harvey Oswald and held
the disastrous bullet !! I kinda' wonder about that though, don't you !!

9. Could that have been that "Good Looking Handsome Devil" Jerry Fisher???

All in Fun Mr. Generals64, so go ahead and laugh, and besides that,

"Sissy Bike"....you probably run and throw like a girl. When they began building that addition (59th & Independence) there was a Huge pond there...Maybe a small lake. The men on the heavy equipment cut the back of the dam out and let the water drain into what is known as Lightning creek. We (late 50's early 60's) would go down there and fish. They left the pond and the dam in big hill type areas for years. There was another pond (we called it West Pond) west of Independence on about 53rd st. close to the area highway 44 now sits.

1951 Chevrolet 4 door with the name ACME Cleaners on the doors, paid $65.00 for it and BLEW the motor out of it two weeks later. Nothing in the car didn't have it long enough. However, my next car was a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Aire...Salmon and Gray in color and I'll stop right there.....

Old-Timers disease once again:.....There was the Comet Skating Rink, The Rocket Skating Rink and the Agnew Skating rink...were ther anymore in OKC? I seem to remember one in Del City on 29th but can't remember the name.

We were big fans of Sean. Dad and Pat were good friends. We had ring side
seats to virtually every fight in OKC. Dad bought Sean his first pair of professional
boxing shoes.

He also use to Box on Friday nights at the "Red Carpet Inn" on 1-35 and S.E. 29th when he was 15 years old. The club there was a hot spot during the "Oily Days." His dad caught a lot of Flack for letting him fight so young...

We all knew Anthony Armstrong Jones (Ronnie Jones) now deceased. Lived next door to Conway Twitty on South Country Club drive. Conway (Harold Jenkins) taught him how to play the guitar and he would have made it big if he would have left the drugs alone. That's why Conway shucked him after several warnings. He was a pretty good kid though, I use to drive him up to the store and buy him beer when he was a kid. Maybe that contributed to his demise, Oh Well. I have the only two albums he ever recorded. He opened up a club in Shrieveport, La called "Proud Mary's" until his death a few years back. I bet you didn't know he had epilepsy either? Had a seizure at one of my friend's house one evening.. Didn't quite understand your question about one time wonder's, I know ton's of singers who were one time wonders, is that what you meant??

Ronnie Kaye was Johnny Hughes mentor and promoter and his one song wonder was just Johnny Blues about a guy that was in Love. Talked to Ronny not long about him at function and low and behold he hauled out the song and played it....
Mike Raymon....Hmmmm. have known Mike Raymond since his first day at Roosevelt. Taught him how to play the Baritone and was a mickey mouse Garage band at his hous. Didn't know he played with Mitch Ryder. Talked to Mike week before last......He's off on another promotional thing. He is a good drummer and a real good baritone player. He plays a Valve Trombone...Ronnie Jones...ran around with Max Tatum and that group 1967 graduates. Yes, I knew about the seziures and knew too much about the drug problem. He was a good guy...my wife tells me he would sing to her at grade school. Twitty was one of the best friends I ever had as well as Joe Lewis and PorkChop and John Hughey. Ronnie just wasn't ready...I always think about him when I here someone sing Proud Mary. Twitty just wouldn't put up with the nonsense that would go on.

Chebon was a little league pitcher for Heronville, and his grandfather coached, he was very good, even as a kid, and yes, he did make Capitol Hill a heck of a QB!!!! C. B. Speegle's last wife was my 2nd cousin, played in a golf scramble with him at Lake Eufaula around 1990 at Arrowhead GC; was a very good athelete himself, even as an older man!!!!! My cousin died while married to him!!!

Funny story about Ronny Kaye, I was working at Jack Clark crysler and plymouth when his wifes car came in on a wrecker with all the widows broke out and dents all over the car. We thought it was hail damage, apparently Ronny got pissed off at his wife and beat the crap outta the car with a hammer or bat I dont really recall.

Crappiehead:...did you know that Frankie Howe died in a hunting accident?. I talked with his wife and she said he was working on his tree stand, something snapped, he fell to the ground and was dead. Boy, can I remember some stories about some things he and I did....Maybe I shouldn't.....I remember the girl in our class that married Mr. Fuller had on one tight skirt and Howe thought it would be funny to see Tommy Elliott sit on the tack...instead. the girl sat down and sure enough, the skirt got tighter. I have remember about that since highschool and last spring, I found where she lived and worked and went to her and apologized.....she didn't remember it...she just said "you guys tried something all the time".

Bingham! He was my shop teacher at Jefferson, Jr. High. I absolutely drove him
crazy. On morning I was working on a project and came over to help. He said, as
serious as I've ever heard, "you ain't takin' shop next year, are you?"

Do you remember the Blue Moon Theater on exchange, not the Hotel!! It was operating while the Rodeo was in business.

Here's a few to help your "Old Timer's Disease" and jog your memory just a bit.
The South Park, Park Terrace, Chieftain, Redskin, Knob Hill, Yale, Capitol, Warner/Cooper, State, Criterion, The May, The Villa, The Towers,, Plaza, Mayflower, Shepherd Twin, Will Rogers, Almonte, Reding 4, Rodeo, Agnew, Westwood Theater, North Penn TWin Drive In, Quail Springs 6, Quail Twin, Ritz, South Shields Mall, Twilight Gardens Drive-In Theater, Britton Theater, The Coronado, Empire Theater, Frontier City had a Theater, Springlake Cinema (with air conditioning) years ago. How about the BISON!!& the Majestic!! The Rialto..

Some drive in's were the Airline, Hillcrest, Winchester, Lake Air Drive-In, Sooner Twin, The Bomber on Reno & Douglas, Riviera Drive-in, 77 Drive In, THe Skyline, The Skyview. That's enough for me.. My brain's gettin' tired...
