  1. #1

    Default Worst TV Station?

    Which is worst?

    KSBI TV 52

    KTBO TV 14

I mean really, can you all believe this?

They both really suck mule eggs in their own kind of way but...have you ever seen anything as lame as this?

    KSBI-TV

Isn't KTBO 14 owned by Trinity Broadcasting and that crooked evangelist, Paul Crouch? I'd take 51 and some of their local football games, old TV, etc. ANY DAY.

I don't see how the 51 website is all that bad for an independent station and 14 doesn't even have a local website. I'm sure Paul Crouch can't allow the local stations their own sites as that's less money in his pocket and cash for his MULTIPLE mansions across the country (seriously). He and Jan Crouch are the two biggest crooks on television.

I have a feeling someone has a bone to pick with Brady.

KFOR. "Talent" is far too generous a word to describe the people who read the news for them, and they're the absolute worst when it comes to broadcasting in HD.

Problem with Brady? Nah. Just a funny situation that unfolded there a few years back is all.

There is nothing wrong with KTBO they at least give us 5 station to watch instead of just 1 or 2, i wish more OKC television station would offer more Mutlticasting like KTBO does, especially for those who receive TV via Antenna like me.

  8. Default Re: Worst TV Station?

Bobby hopefully you have or will get your digital receiver...that antenna is gonna be worthless next February.

Sounds as though Bobby already has a digital receiver? BTW, the present antennas will do analog or digital.

Yes, I have been in testing mode for digital for well over a year now about ready to go live soon.

This is probably a bit off subject, but since the thread is more or less about local television, can someone explain to the newbie why Cox didn't put the local stations on their respective channels (i.e. Channel 4 is actually on Channel 3, Channel 9 is on 10, etc.)?

There are markets three times the size of OKC, with 6 or 7 local channels, but they are all assigned accordingly (WRC - Channel 4? Just hit "4" on your remote...WJZ - Channel 13? Not a problem...)

The main reason was ghosting. Depending on where you were in OKC....if Cox had 4 on 4, or 5 on 5 etc, there were ghosting issues where the TVs were receiving the cable signal, plus the over the air signal and it was creating double images. So they went to this setup to prevent that problem. I believe it is also why you don't see any real important channels on Cox's 4,5 and 9, except cable programming. Except in the case of KXBI on 9, but they are such a low power station it isn't as much of an issue. Now the ghosting problem may not be a problem in your area of town, but for those up in NE OKC close to the transmission towers, it was a problem back when Cox first started. At least this was what a Cox rep explained to me long long ago.

back in the day when we had multimedia cable, it was like that. i think cox just wants to keep you guessing and channel surfing.

LOL! I like both answers...thanks. It just seems like some arbitrary wickedness on Cox's part.

  15. Default Re: Worst TV Station?

It's the nature of the analog beast. NTSC video works on AM principles, so it's subject to the same limitations as AM: you get two signals slightly out of phase from one another, and the receiver dutifully delivers them both because it has no way to separate them. (FM, on the other hand, will seize the stronger and totally reject the weaker; the signal difference needed to provoke the seizure is called the capture ratio.)

What happens is that there's some small amount of signal leakage into the RF inputs, and if you're tuned to channel 4, say, you'll have mostly the cable signal, but if your installation isn't hyper-tight you'll pick up just enough of the over-the-air signal to be a nuisance. This is why cable companies typically move stuff off their dial positions.

None of this will matter after February, when there will be no more full-power analog stations and channel 4 over the air will be on channel 27 anyway.

KSBI is on Channel 9 on cable, but they are actually one of the highest power-output stations in Oklahoma. (ref FCC) They are in the UHF band on channel 52, that is why they don't ghost on Channel 9. But in the leaky sieve of wires known as COX cable, KWTV often interferes with KSBI on cable, it's a sore spot and none of the involved parties like to talk about it.

I have to say channel 4 is becoming to entertaining instead of bringing news. Can anyone tell me how Meg Alexander doing random everyday jobs such as: tree triming; garbage collecting is news? When I saw the teaser for her videos of odd jobs I thought "you are kidding!" Did anyone else think that was a bit strange?

Sana Syed pioneered a series like that on FOX25, called "Dirty Jobs". They'd always run it during sweeps. It was pure entertainment, which is what they want going into sweeps. Just look at all the sensational stories they've run over the past month. It's all about getting you to watch.

I cannot stand eithe one of them either. I really hate all the religous and family oriented programming.

Now that MTV that is some good watching there. I pull out the old ball peen hammer tap a few knots on my skull and drink a quart of Drano. After that I kick back and watch Tila Tequlia, the Hills and every other brain dead show that comes on.

KFOR is not crap. We all need some fun mix in with the news. I can't believe people would want news that is mostly violence and sad events to flood into our homes.

KFOR is not better or worse than the others when it comes to 'news'

If you're bored silly and don't mind engaging in a complete waste of time sitting through the pablum that's stuffed in between the ads, broadcast news, local or network, is certainly one way to fritter away the time.

Interesting. Why does news always have to be about violence and saddness??Seems to me that 'news' sometime is good. The problem is someone has determined that the bulk of the 'news' we are to receive is bad. I wonder why news can't be more 50% relevant news (even if its bad) and 50% good news from the community?

  24. Default Re: Worst TV Station?

To me, there is a mixture of both, but the bad always come first to alert everyone of whats happening and it is truely the news. The good comes last, which is better, because we wouldn't want to end the viewing time on a sad note.
