Thread: Pioneer Pies

    Default Pioneer Pies

What happend to the Pioneer Pies on Hefner & Penn? I worked there in '91 and/or '92 and I never thought that place would go out. I even loved to go back there and eat after I moved on with my life. Did it get outshined by all of those places to eat on Memorial? How are the ones on NW Expressway and the
Southside doing? Are they even still open? I don't live down there anymore so I'm not in on what's happening.

The one on Hefner Road had really gotten worn out by the mid- to late-90s. Service had declined, quality had declined ... just wasn't the same anymore.

The one on NW Expressway closed a few months ago. Too bad, they were really one of the best places in town for good home cooked food and bang for your buck. You got a complete 3 course home cooked meal that was good for $10 bucks. I'm not sure if their southside location is still around or not. I think their demise was that they just didn't advertise any. You've got to advertise folks to stay visible.

I loved breakfast at pioneer pies and frequented the one on Hefner between Penn & May. I think their service was fine, but the traffic really started to decrease after the Wal-mart across the street moved. That just isn't a high-traffic location and they never advertised so they just started losing customers b/c people forgot they were there.

Is Pioneer Pies on I-240 open? Everytime I passed by, there is 2 or 3 cars in the parking lot and I couldn't tell if it's open or shut down

Pioneer Pies at I-240 is still open, I just ate there a few weeks ago. I think it is the only remaining Pioneer Pies in OKC. An Old Chicago just opened next to it taking the place of Pearl's. So, hopefully business will continue to run steady.

EXACTLY! "Word of mouth" isn't going to pay your bills these days!! This place was good. I know the NW side one was open at least until 2001, but not sure when it closed.

    Sad.

    But mostly true.

You'd think that a great product, wonderful service and comfortable, well-located facilities would be enough.

But we've become such an ADD-riddled impulse-buy gotta-have-it-now convienence-is-king society that quality and service have taken a back seat to speed and homogenation.

I, for one, refuse to make my decisions based on who spends the most money for advertising. I choose quality and service, every time.

what do you mean 2001? The NW one closed within the last few months, well after 2001.

On another note, my wife and I ate at the one on I-240 and May last week so hopefully they will be around in at least one location for a little while. You can't beat the quality and quantity of food for the money. You can't get a 4 course home cooked meal for $10 anywhere else in this city.
