Yes I absolutely remember the Yucatan Liquor Stand. You're right, it WAS great for a WHILE. I think it peaked around 92-93. But it was HELLACIOUS trying to find a parking spot.

I am a bit younger than some of you (35) but I remember a lot of the things that you guys are talking about.
I was a northsider...John Marshall and here are some things that stand out in my mind:
Fun Skate at 122nd and Penn
Uhles Grocery Store on Britton Road just east of Western
The little TG&Y as my mom would call it on Britton Road just east of Western
Neptune's on Western just South of Britton Road
The Big TG&Y that was attached to Anthony's at Britton and May
Shotgun Sam's, but I was thinking it was at Britton and May at one time
Then, there was a dress store that had a monkey in it. There was one in Northpark Mall and another one on May just south of 63rd, I can't remember the name of it.
The IGA store at 63rd and Western
The 7-11 store on Western north of Britton road
Otasco and Antonys in Casady Square
The Village Library in Casady Square
The Circle K on Britton Road between Hudson and Harvey
The Long John Silvers on Britton Road by Johnnies, they had an awesome treasure chest
I could go on forever, this is a really fun thread, just seems that I am quite a bit younger than some of you and don't have the same memory.
That was my first job. i remeber thinking that job was the worst, but after a couple of real jobs later, i really had a fun time working at Buchanan'sBuchanan's on S Western
I spent almost every possible Saturday from the time I was 10 until I hit about 13 at that Fun Skate. Good times. It's a church now.
I don't remember the little TG&Y, but certainly remember the Big TG&Y at Britton/May, next to that same Anthony's. We went there frequently.
The clothing store with the monkey to which you refer was called "Tammy Lynn's." Their original store was at Grand and May, in the same strip area where Ruth's Sweet Justice is now. I think there is a hair salon in its place now. The monkey at the original store was pretty nice. I don't know if the North Park store had a different monkey, or he was just grumpy from the move, but the experience was never the same.
I also very fondly remember when I graduated from "Tammy Lynn's," to "The Village Buggy," another store but with more "grown up girl" clothes. The VB was in the same strip next to Tammy Lynn's, then moved (or expanded) with them to NorthPark.
I also remember a TV show that I think what was then Channel 43 put on. It was an after-school "dance party" show that area schools could sign up to participate. It was all the rage in middle school to get to be on that program and watch all of your friends (or have your friend watch you) on TV. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the show.
Yeah, that dress store with the monkey was called Tammy Lynne's and my mom would drag us up there to get stuff for my sister. I didn't mind waiting with that crazy, caged thing to keep me occupied. We'd go next door to Guy Madison's for me.
I just realized how much driving we'd do just to go clothes shopping (this was before the malls became so big).
Yeah...Tammy Lynne's. I think my parents took us in there just to see the Monkey so they didn't have to take us to the Zoo. LOL
Fun Skate had to be the #1 Entertainment spot for us 80's teens. Remember the floor guards...Let's see...Duke, Tony, Larry...they were all so funny.
[QUOTE=Prunepicker;89935]
The dog's name was Queenie. I know who she was named after but swore to never tell.
Did that dog happened to be named after someone that was in the Philharmonic Orchestra? I think I know this story.
There's a world of fun,
At wonderful Tammy Lynne's!
i only lived in edmond for a couple of years (second and third grades at orvis risner) before moving to fort smith, but i fondly remember making my parents drive down may avenue so i could see the new rolls-royces and bentleys at jackie cooper. and i recall that some dealer in norman used to sell ferraris at one time.
as far as crossroads mall is concerned, i do remember 'the hobby shop' that was located in one of the wings. that place was great.
The hobby shops never seemed to stay open very long in the 1960s.
There was one at the SW corner of 59th and Pennsylvania (Hillcrest Shopping Center?) that had a slot-car track. I think a Radio Shack took its place. Directly across the street was the Hillcrest Hospital, 7-11 and an "automatic" car wash.
A colleague of mine is wondering what the place was called on the SW corner of 63rd and May. They had a mechanical bull and a slide inside. It was western themed...maybe a restaurant. Anyone know?
proud2B, there was a club called Confetti in that space for a while, but that was more of a disco.
Probably was remade at least once but I don't know the other iterations.
I remember that place but can't remember the name. In my mind it opened pretty soon after the Urban Cowboy movie came out and the mechanical bulls were very popular so I am guessing late 70's early 80's.
I think it was called Stampede at one point. It's where the PetsMart is (or was).
I remember a lot of those too.
There was a Shotgun Sams at Britton and May, it is now a Vietnamese Restaurant.
I remember shopping for school clothes at Anthony's and the TG&Y.
I remember the monkey at Tammy Lynn's as well as baseball games at the YMCA across from Bumpass Park.
Fun Skate was the best.
So cool to find this thread and remember days gone by.
Does any one recall the name of the diner on May Ave just South of the Fairgrounds??? They had juke boxes at the table. this was early 1960s...maybe it was a truck stop...
Great old stories abound about Carey Place. Anyone else remember "cruising Zudi's"
Dr. Zudi's old house which was about 140th and Portland as I recall in the mid 70s. that WAS the middle of nowhere!!! The house was old and looked like a cat's face all lit up- supposed to be haunted!!!
