so what river does not collect run off?

What is everybody talking about? A young professional city leader is doing something great for the city and you put him down...... This is a great idea and he is the future of our city! He takes chances and succeeds, whats wrong with that.

For once I agree with johnnyboy. The positives of the Humphreys impact on OKC far outweigh the negatives. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Humphreys are not part of the "Old Money" of OKC. Did anyone else see the Ferris Wheel on the Batchelor this season?

Quite the opposite of Jim Brewer.

You just have different types of business guys... those who hold the keys and sit on it waiting to make money, and those who have the same keys and choose to unlock doors.

Uh no, it's a river. The Oklahoma (North Canadian) River flows through New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. It rises just east of Des Moines, New Mexico in Union County, New Mexico; it is known as Corrumpta Creek. From there it flows eastwardly through the Oklahoma Panhandle, where it is known as the Beaver River. The Beaver River is dammed near Hardesty as Optima Dam. The Coldwater Creek empties into the Beaver River at Optima Dam. It flows southeastward into the Texas Panhandle into Sherman County, Texas for six miles, turning northeast and back into the Oklahoma Panhandle before continuing on to the east. It enters Northwest Oklahoma and turns southeast and takes the name North Canadian River where it is joined by Wolf Creek just south of the town of Fort Supply, Oklahoma. It is dammed at Canton, Oklahoma in Blaine County where it forms Canton Lake. It then flows into Lake Overholser, and then past downtown before joining the Canadian east of OKC.

So tell me then how it's not a river.

I've read that the Ferris Wheel is 9 stories (ninety feet). This is almost the same height as the new bricktown ballpark hotel. Will this even be seen from the new I-40?

Also, the new Santa Monica Ferris Wheel is already up and running. Does that mean that Humphrey's Ferris Wheel is on its way here? Looking forward to seeing it lit up near the OKC skyline!

I don't know, but I would expect that the Humphreys wheel will be in storage awhile until a proper setting is available. If nothing else, I assume it needs some sort of concrete foundation.

  12. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

Where exactly will this wheel be located?

It would be nice to see all in the same area; the wheel, Energy Tower, and the Silver Bullet from Frontier city.

That guy can buy the Silver Bullet, paint it black, add fancy lights on the tracks.

  13. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

The Silver Bullet has already been painted black...and silver (imagine that). And the Energy Tower is one of those nightmares that will fade into nothing.

  14. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

Cool, I heard they were going to do that and it is about time. I was tired of seeing pink/teal. LoL

I just think that Frontier City need to replace it with an upscale roller coaster, but not limit to that one spot. The tracks can expand over Wild Cat.

As for the Energy Tower, I do think that the design need to be changed into more attractive display. White bars isn't going to do the trick. It will be clearly visible for rust in no time. It should be chrome silver (or something) that wouldn't rust. Make it shiny and add lights completely to light up the sky.

  16. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

I was thinkin along the line of highest 1st drop, highest 2nd drop, highest 3rd drop, longest track, most loops, and most lights. The leather seats wouldn't be a bad idea.

  17. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

    What???

There's no need to lose the Silver Bullet for Frontier City to put in a larger roller coaster. They have plenty of space to the west and north.

I would want digital waiting lines...

You could rent a little PDA that lets you sign up for the rides you want to get on and you can take it easy and do other things instead of sit there like a jackass in the sun.

Any chance this will be up and running by NBA's opening night on October 31? I would love to see this lit up along the river during the opening camera shots that most nba telecasts do of the hosting teams downtown skyline.

no way, i don't think it has been announced where it will be located. if it was announced, the way this city is, it would be two or three years before we see any dirt moved. and once dirt start moving, it would be ten years before it's finished.

Putting it together will probably take a day and a half at the most. I guess finding the land will take forever.

  25. Default Re: Humphreys Ferris Wheel

No, he has the land. It will go on the river at the former airpark. The issue is that there is no development there yet, so it has to wait.
