Thread: Why no Norman bureau?

    Default Why no Norman bureau?

I can't figure out why our local TV stations seem to ignore Norman. It's the state's third largest city and well within the OKC metro, yet we hear more about Tulsa. Edmond gets a tremendous amount of coverage, too, and all I can figure is that the reporters only have to drive five minutes from their station to gather a story in E-Town.

And speaking of Tulsa, does anyone care about what's going on there? I'd rather see the TV coverage expanded to include more of the OKC metro than go "Up the Pike" for a piece on Tulsa. I don't know those news people and I don't know the areas they're describing. They might as well be doing a piece from Ft. Smith when it comes to relatability to me and my family.

I can hear ya on that. You're right it's probably a matter of our local media being lazy and not wanting to make the drive unless it's the medieval fair our OU is playing football.

KWTV has Gan Mathews based in Norman for "Cleveland County" news...but not much else.

I think it is just one of the unfortunate parts of being so close to OKC. Norman if further away would probably have their own local affiliate like Lawton and Ardmore do.

News9 had a bureau in the Norman Oklahoman office, but after the split, the News9-ers were...asked to leave abruptly. Gan Matthews and his photog-of-the-day still cover Cleveland County down to Ardmore and points in between. They just don't have a permanent office right now.
