Thread: Elm Creek reservoir

  1. #1

    Default Elm Creek reservoir

I've seen this thing proposed on maps since I was a kid. Looks like it would connect to Draper and make a nice big lake here in OKC. I've looked for info on it and there really isn't much out there. Does anyone know what the "plans" are for it?

Never heard of it, where would it connect to Draper?

Yeah, and WHAT would it connect to Draper?

Can't really come from the north, as Tinker is in the way...There's nothing south, east, or west of Draper either...At least not close by anyway.

Just realized after a second look ... if poperly plugged and then filled, the proposed reservoir looks like it would wipe out the access to Cross-timbers, an existing campground off lake bodydrop and also flood over most, possibly all, of the cross-timbers atv bike trails to the south and west of the campground. Not a good thang for those folks, who were only recently routeed that way for the north side of draper to go into reclaimation mode

Not sure how they can "reclaim" anything when they let horses on the trails they kicked the cycles/ATV's off of?

From 80 something miles of great trails and varied terrain down to a scant few of highly structured uni-directional trails...Not to mention the part where it went from $2 a day to $10 a day.

Screw that noise. It's one of the reasons I got rid of my ATV.

Hmm, that would definitely make Lake Draper more attractive. The more water in the Metro the better, I wonder what is the status of this project?

You know, I find it odd that I have lived here nearly all my life and I have never seen Lake Draper.

On that PDF, check page 32, 37, 38 [Shows proposed reservoir], 57, and 58.

Thought I would dig this thread up. This article claims that this lake will be built in the next 50 years. It was in 2006. I imagine it will coincide with whatever population growth the city has...

Seems odd that they'd have a separate name for the thing as it looks to connect to draper.

I'm surprised I've never heard of this project before.....is it still a go for the future? And is there anything besides the croos-timbers trails that would have to be relocated? Im all for more water/lakes in central OK.

It's been talked about for a loooooong time. We just haven't gotten where we need it yet. Anyone remember the last time OKC actually had to ration for more than a week or two? And was that even enforced? So basically for the population we have, we've got a good water supply. But it is nice to know that it's available should we need it. As for campgrounds and trails...hey, remember that when you double the size of a lake, you double the possibilities for trails and campgrounds. Maybe with the addition, we'd see fewer bodies and cars IN the water and more campgrounds and trails AROUND it.

I stand corrected. Looking more closely than I did a year ago, the campgrounds at cross-timbers would survive, but the atv park and mega lot added for parking would be underwater.

All that new shoreline does seem enticing, for a variety of reasons
