Why, then, would Clay OFFER the City of Seattle to keep the name as a part of an agreement?
By the way, did anyone see the latest Sunday Oklahoman? It has a page where you can design the uniform and name the team, just for SNG's. The best submissions would be featured on later Oklahoman's.
...this shortest straw has been pulled for you
I just hope it is the Oklahoma City "something" such as the Oklahoma City Blazers, NOT the Oklahoma "somethings" like the Oklahoma Redhawks. I like the Oklahoma City Outlaws, but you know what happen the last time a team here in Oklahoma had the Outlaw name?
Sonic Boomers
Those of you wanting "Outlaws" should probably shelve that as a possibility. At least as long as David Stern is running the NBA. Stern has worked hard to change the image of the NBA with dress codes, tighter enforcement on the court, higher penalties and fines, etc. It's been described by many to change the "outlaw" image of the NBA. I don't think they would turn around and approve "Outlaws" as an actual team name. Not in the NBA. One problem from a team member of the "Outlaws" and you would have people saying the team is well-named and so forth. I could be wrong, but I just don't see the NBA approving that name.
I like the colors a lot better than the green and gold of the Sonics. Those are probably my least favorite colors of the current NBA teams.
I like the Oilers, just because my late grandma loved the Houston Oilers and she's the one who got me hooked on sports...plus don't we have an oil well in front of our state capital?
After that I'd go with in no particular order:
89ers-Who cares if there is already the 76ers or the 49ers. Both of those dates are specific to history pertaining to those states so in no way is it stealing.
Rush-I've always like the nicknames without the 's at the end like the Magic or the Heat, it just sounds cool. Plus, it ties in to LandRush
Posse-Just think it sounds schnazzy
Thunder-We are in tornadoe alley and I hear when there's a tornadoe, some thunder and lighting is usually accompanied with it
Dream- I haven't heard this one yet...just made it up. Oklahoma City Dream has a ring to it in my opinion.
Regardless of what they decide to call it, I definitely think it should be Oklahoma City instead of Oklahoma and that the public should at least get some sort of a vote as to what the team should be called.
I like the Oklahoma City Twisters for some reason. The Oklahoma City Sonics would be ok, but I think we need our own team name. I agree that with Sonic here it could be a major advertising tie in, but the Twisters just sound good to me.
A name that is starting to float around on the Okc basketball fan site is Oklahoma City Barons.
here is the link to a jersey with the topic of possible names.

Here is someones version of the Barons with a jersey.
These are not me pictures , the name is kmsooners28 found on the link above.
I hope the Sonics name and brand remains in Seattle as part of lease buyout settlement.
There may be a lot of value in the name but I don't want the baggage that goes along with it.
I want a fresh start regardless of what the new name is.
I like the team name "Barons"
-It's original.
-It plays to the fact that the oil industry is what made Oklahoma's economy.
-It's sounds powerful.
-It's not negative.
The western typefont on that jersey is great.
I really like the name Barons. It's a original and it has a nice ring to it. A lot better than Oklahoma City Twisters that name just sounds cheesy to me.
Whenever the vote is taken I vote for Oklahoma City Barons
I have to stick with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Barons don't do it for me at all. We've heard the word a lot around Oklahoma because we use it for "Oil Barons," but it's actually a name that most people would associate with the nobility title of Baron, which certainly wouldn't work. A lot of people would wonder what's up with Barons and Baronesses in Oklahoma.
With our usage around here, a baron is only an industrialist. I don't get the excitement. Why honor the wealthy owners of an oil company as opposed to those who actually do the work?
Barons = confusion and lack of fun and excitement. (To me anyway. Obviously others disagree.)
I'll stick up for Thunder as well... Barons sounds a little elitist to me. And you can't get too many good ESPN soundbites out of a name like that without coming out kinda lame, in my opinion.
I like Barons, it has a classic ring to it. Much like Knicks, Celtics, Pacers, and Sonics.
When you first hear the name Barons, you have to think about it, and then you are like , yeah, I like the sound of that. It is a name that maybe does need explaining to outsiders much like a Sooner, but they are both original in sports.
Either way it will be fun coming up with a name. However their will never be a name that all are in agreement with.
