I didn't think about the mascot.... What would we end up if we picked Thunderbirds?
Big Bird?
A lightening bolt.
A cloud?
Uh oh.. now I'm worried.

" You've Been Thunder Struck ! "
i was thinking about this the other day and like calling them the Wildcats as an homage to the wildcatters of our state's beginnings. i guess the main problem would be that is sounds similar to the bobcats.
I think I like the Thunderbirds the best of all of the suggestions so far the more I think about it. I like the idea of paying homage to our native American roots but in a classy way, not a derogatory, cartoony way that so many teams have gotten into trouble for.
i have no knowledge of this, but i'd bet there's already a team name/colors/uniform design in the works... Bennett, et al, seem to be pretty smart guys and this seems like something that would have already been thought out and worked on for when/if the time comes...
If we don't extend the tax, we'll have no team to even think about naming.

...but if we vote yes, how about the OKC WarChiefs or just Chiefs?
I would also like to see the uni's colored red, not only because of the tie to Native America but our dirt.

Let's vote YES so we can continue this discussion!
I'm voting YES tomorrow. I just received my voter registration card last week. I was sweating bullets thinking I was never going to get it in time.

I'm all for the Oklahoma City Thunderbirds. Also, maybe we could look in to the state's past sports teams... the Oklahoma City 89ers anyone? Not only does it fit in w/ the Oklahoma land run, but the NBA only has one team w/ a numerical mascot- the Philly 76ers.
OKC T-Birds!!!!!
Seattle has a hockey team named the Thunderbirds...you gonna try and steal that too?
Nah, we already have one of those, but thanks for the idea. hey, Muskogee, y'all want a hockey team? Call Clay at 1-800-puck-off and see if he'll foot the downpayment
We've had the Thunderbirds in OKC for years. It is the symbol of the 45th infantry division, and has been since WWII. (Prior to that, their insignia was the swastika, which was obviously discarded with the rise of Nazi Germany)
M38A1.COM - History of the 45th Infantry Division (Thunderbirds)
"After approval of the Commanding General, Eighth Corps Area, and the Chief, National Guard Bureau, the Thunderbird design was officially approved by the War Department and authorized for manufacture and wear. The document approving this design, stated that the Thunderbird was an American Indian symbol signifying "sacred bearer of happiness unlimited"."
