Thread: Hotel recommendations?

  1. #1

    Default Hotel recommendations?

We're going to be up there in mid-July, and planning to go to the Dylan, Woody, Outsiders House, and Church Studio museums. Looking for a cool boutique-type hotel that's nowhere close to downtown or the train yard across the river southwest of downtown. Thanks...

    NOT close to downtown? Why?

Way too much train horn noise, stayed at the Mayo a while back and had train horns blowing every 20-30 minutes, all night long, just got up and left at 5 AM pretty unhappy. Have heard from other people that as of the recent past, it's still noisy, so don't even want to take a chance.

Check out the Ambassador or the Brut

Thanks, but those are still too close to the train yard, and wife already checked out Brut and decided against it because they rent the pool to the public and it's crowded and also apparently has a lack of parking.

bizarre to me that tulsa doesn't have a quiet zone downtown

The Campbell Hotel is supposed to be interesting and historical. The photos online are kind of funky, but it's right on Route 66 and close to Mother Road Market and a bunch of other cool stuff.

There are also a bunch of AirB&B type places near Cherry Street, if you are willing to mess with that.

The Ambassador can be pricey, but looks very cool - it's in downtown, but south of the dispersal loop in a quieter area.

Unfortunately we don't have many cool boutique hotels here, and the ones we have are mostly downtown.

Thanks, don't do AirBnB, but will check out the Campbell.

I believe some of the horns we heard were from the yard. We also heard from someone who lived downtown that there used to (and may still) be lots of people on/around the tracks downtown or near it (or maybe in the yard), because the horn patterns we heard weren't the standard long-long-short-long crossing pattern, they were just a bunch of random soundings, probably reacting to people on the tracks, which makes sense because quiet zones just apply to approaching crossings, not dangerous/warning situations.

It’s pricey but probably the nicest place to stay in Tulsa and located in a neighborhood south of downtown next to the riverfront: https://harweldenmansion.com/suites/

Ambassador, Mayo and Tulsa Club are the nicest in the downtown area. As Swake said downtown is a quiet zone for trains so any trains you hear are coming from the yard across the river.

Looks incredible, but way out of our price range, thanks though.

It’s wild that yall are that sensitive to it. I lived downtown for 4 years two blocks east of the Mayo and I’m not sure I ever noticed noise from the rail yard. I guess everyone has their pet peeve annoyances.

Riverspirit and the Marriot in south Tulsa are both nice. Stoney creek in BA and the Double Tree by La Fortune aren’t bad. None of those are really boutique hotels but they’re nice.

This place looks cool and there are a bunch of hills between it and the rail yard. https://www.cedarrockinn.com/

Didn’t know there were residences a blocks couple east. Have they converted one of the buildings there?

No. I lived it a tent in the park on 6th between main and Boston. Even more impressive that I couldn’t hear the trains.
