The Norman Transcript published a correction on misnaming the party suing. Rainer is not involved as previously reported. This article in the OU Daily corrected the party, as well as providing more detail.

Apples and oranges, but it does remind me of the Cabela's deal OKC made. OKC paid for something new and different, then a couple of years later Bass Pro bought them out. Cabela's is only "kind of different" from Bass Pro.

The mayor and ward 1 CM Bell were both yes votes on the TIF and both were tossed out at the ballot box tonight in a landslide.
Look for the Chickasaw nation to partner with OU to build a new facility where the LNC is presently located.
THE UNP arena is still very much a possibility
If it doesn't happen, OUs basketball programs will die. Simple as that. Not literally, but figuratively, they will be dead. No one will care or want to go. No coach worth their salt will want to work for a school in a community that doesn't care about their success.
LOL. Was any of OU’s campus ever part of the Chickasaw Nation? (The answer is no).
The tribes have made a ton of money in Oklahoma over the last few decades and have benefited from assisting in projects (see FAM + Okana). If they want to give back by helping on this or are being compensated in other ways (like being given land similar to the FAM situation…the likely scenario) then power to them. No one would be forcing this on them.
And who is the “We” that overran them? The US government 5-6 generations ago (that just recently returned to them more autonomy over their nations in the McGirt Ruling)?
Just a dumb comment.
Now we wait to see if a new entertainment district goes at UNP or if it becomes more strip malls at a later date (I am sure if it goes to a vote and is denied there will still be a entertainment district to a extent. It just won't feature the arena or the residential/office space. I think the National Weather Museum might still move at some point but I think it would be mainly strip malls with more corporate entities if it gets denied. As for Holman winning I think the biggest factor is the fact the now former mayor was against the homeless shelters being funded by the city. Not standing for the TIF or the Turnpike.
Also if the Chickasaw nation gets involved on the arena. They should make Jenkins Ave go over the river and put the arena on the southern side of the river. If it gets to the point where the Chickasaw nation has to get involved for it to be built. Norman doesn't deserve to benefit from any of the tax cuts from it. If anyone complains. They need to tell them to be careful for what they vote for
The idea that we're considering playing in an off campus arena 10 mins from campus is absolutely head scratcher for some. Not like it's a big topic, but read a couple of SEC message boards where it was touched on and it was laughed at. If it were to move to a casino, I personally wouldn't hear the end of it from the SEC fans I'm surrounded by here in Arkansas. We're not in the Big 12 anymore. This conference is VERY facility-centric. It's a point of pride to the programs and fan bases. Fact is we came into the conference with already the worst arena, baseball facilities and tailgating (which is another story for another day) aswell as tepid fan support to most sports outside of football and softball. The perception isn't great. BTW, outside of Louisville, we would be the only group of 4 program that doesn't play in an on-campus facility.

OU 1000% does NOT have the worst tailgating in the SEC .. not even close ..
I have been to a game at every single SEC venue except arkansas texas and south carolina (that will change next season) and lots of them multiple times
OU would not even be the only SEC school to not play on campus .. hello kentucky ..
LOL.. Whitewashing what was done doesn't change it. And I said it would be IRONY. No one said anything about forcing them to do anything. At least they now have some freedom to make their own decisions about whether to engage or not. As to them "giving back"... lol. They may just trying to get back to even. More power to them.
That said, I don't think we have seen anything but some internet suggestion with no attributable sources (or even un-attributable) that they will bail out the state again by underwriting what Norman isn't willing to.
