Lots of my neighbors attended the soft openings last week and raved about the food and drinks. Can't wait to go.
Akai is going to make other restaurants step up their game. Was blown away during their soft opening.
Great addition to OKC!
Akai has amazing sushi!
Here's a link for reservations.

My wife and I visited Akai this evening. The quality of the food, professionalism of the staff, and ambiance is phenomenal. The best meal I’ve ever had in OKC. This place is a 10/10. What a gift to Oklahoma City!
I loved this new restaurant, probably my favorite sushi in OKC.
Excellent meal, only two of us but still tried a lot (hot and cold starters, nigiri, rolls, desert). Server had good recommendations and the staff was attentive, food came out lightning fast. Good sake selection.
We tried Akai for dinner on Saturday night. The dining room and bar area were both at full capacity when we arrived, which was good to see. It was noisy, but not so much so that we could not converse across the table.
Our server was a little late arriving, but that was understandable. We started with a cocktail and a beer (Sapporo on tap was $8 for a large pour) and then ordered the Chicken Karaage appetizer. It arrived fairly quickly and was outstanding - 5 nicely-sized portions of chicken, breaded and fried to perfection, and served upon a bed of greens with Japanese mayo and umami salt. They nailed this and I will definitely order it again on our next visit.
We next ordered the Eggplant appetizer. It was tasty, with a sweet miso glaze and adorned with edible flowers. I liked it more than she did, and my only comment is that it was a rather small portion for the price.
We next ordered the Shi****o Peppers, which were outstanding. We received a large plate of bite-sized peppers with bonito flakes and a sweet-and-spicy miso. Very tasty and not too spicy! I absolutely loved these and will also order them again on our next visit.
For dinner, we shared an entree of Vegetable Fried Rice, which was more than enough after 3 appetizers. This is absolutely the best veggie fried rice I have ever had anywhere. The veggies were cooked to perfection and the entire dish was very flavorful.
Our server was very attentive, even given the full house, and the bar manager order us another round when he noticed our glasses were low. The manager (owner?) was very visible throughout the evening, welcomed us upon arrival, and then wished us a good evening upon our departure.
Our tab was around $125 after tip and I felt it was well worth it. We had no complaints from our visit and I highly recommend this for date nights, small groups, or to just sit at the bar and watch the Thunder game. I can easily see another location opening in Edmond, Norman, or elsewhere in the OKC metro.
The Mrs. And I ate there last Friday night. Place was packed (100% were reservations) and the food was phenomenal. Really love the Wheeler District.
Had another exceptional meal at Akai, best sushi in the metro and it isn't close.
