Here is a map of the expected snowstorm to play around with from two drop down menus. For instance, the chance of it snowing 6 in. in OKC is 5%. Better for desktop, rather than phone. https://stillwaterweather.com/wxnwswinter

Latest model data this morning is still consistent with last night. Higher totals further NW than initially expected, but the main show is still across SE/E OK.

C OK I would say 1-3" is a solid bet, with 1" being on the NW sides, 3" to the SE sides. At this point it would take a dramatic shift in the entire storm track or persistent localized snow-banding in order to give OKC anything crazy.

A couple things to watch today: (1) where is the dry slot and (2) where does the secondary band set up on the back side of the low? Where those ultimately set up will greatly vary the snowfall amounts across C and E OK

Looks like NWS extended the winter storm warnings west to include Oklahoma county. Tulsa office will probably also extend further north to I-40.

Looks like Oklahoma and Cleveland are now in the Winter Storm Warning.

Latest HRRR showing the additional snow-to-come. The real kicker is going to be this evening when the snow plume off the low begins cranking from S to N. Right now, this line is forecast to be just E of I-35 corridor, any amount of time underneath those bands will result in significantly higher accumulation.

Usually when we snow it has been above freezing, sometimes significantly slow, not many days before it comes down. The snow melts on grassy areas pretty quick in those instances but it's not letting up really at all. I think it's also causing some spots on less traveled roads to freeze a bit quicker.

Main roads may not be too awful throughout this storm, but I would think tomorrow morning might have a lot of black ice since the temps are right around freezing.

The last burst of energy from this storm is beginning now. You can see the plume of snow developing down toward Wichita Falls area. This will advance northward and eventually be shoved by overall low movement to the east.

The drop of the temp in Stillwater from 31 to 30 and more snowfall resulted in turning the streets from just wet to snowy or slushy. Winter storm warning has advanced to there.

Feel like the models did a good job with this system. Wonderful snow.

Emily on KFOR said 3.1" of snow at Will Rogers broke an all-time record for Jan. 9. Former record was 2" in 1977.

Looks like the GFS is hinting at some snow in the area around the 19th/20th. Signal doesn't appear super strong at the moment. That looks to be followed up on the 23rd with another system pushing through which doesn't look super great for precipitation chances at the moment. Still worth keeping an eye on. Otherwise, the rest of the month looks quiet.

On another note, this snow was absolutely perfect. Super fluffy and great for building snowmen. Not super windy. Not super cold. It was quite pleasant and set up some beautiful scenery. Love it when it snows like this!

Edit: Wanted to add that the temperatures look to drop substantially around that system coming in on the 19th. Going to be some really cold air coming in.

Also, it was warm enough that not much snow stuck to the roads for very long and already today it's almost all gone.

    We certainly needed the precip.

Warming trend this week ahead of the next system.

This coming weekend will be dramatically colder after a strong cold front comes in putting highs from the 60s to near and below freezing for Saturday/Sunday and into the beginning of the next week. Some forecast models are indicating extreme cold temperatures for long duration (think not getting above 15F for 3-4 days).

Not seeing any decent precipitation chances at this time.

Oh man! Just checked the latest complete GFS. It’s hinting at an absolute unit of a snow storm. It’s a narrow system and kinda funny looking so I fully expect our next run or two to change it, but it definitely caught my eye.

I think the models are overplaying the extreme cold, at least for our area. It will be cold, yes, but not unlike anything we have seen before and not colder during this same time last year. Tulsa last Jan 15 had a high of 6 and low of -2!

Models are still a mixed bag of how deep the cold air will travel. Over the last few days, there has been some retreating of the forecast - which is bringing potential precipitation into play for the area.

Enjoy this mild Friday, everything changes tonight. May see a few fast-passing weak showers this afternoon that are coming up from the SW. Nothing significant.

Cold N winds all day Saturday and Sunday. Morning lows will be in the teens with windchills in single-digits.

May see some snow showers Monday, but at this time does not look significant for C OK. Looks like a mainly TX event again.

Luckily this is just a glancing blow of Arctic air and the deep freeze stays to the East. With sunny weather even the low wind chills the next few days won’t be too bad. We might have one more cold snap after this then springtime weather/storm season will be here before we know it.
