I follow the Oklahoma National Stockyards Company on Facebook and they've been posting about their auctions every week. Are you referring to a different cattle auction operation?

I guess I was given bad info on the auctions.

I know their volume was way, way down which is why they decided to sell the property.

My understanding is the entire property will be redeveloped and there won't be any more cattle.

Any idea how much of the total acreage is unincorporated Oklahoma County?

Volume is not down. It’s still one of the biggest auctions in the country.

I thought it was the actual biggest cattle auction in the country. Is that not the case?

    https://hpj.com/2024/11/08/oklahoma-...ards-for-sale/

Chris Bakwin, great-great-grandson of Nelson Morris, founder of the company that started ONS, cited low cattle numbers as the motivation of the sale. In 2024, cattle numbers were the lowest they have been since 1951. Other factors, such as drought and input costs have put a stop to herd rebuilding.

Bakwin, who is also board chairman of the stockyards, said ONS previously sold a million head in a year, but with the challenges in the livestock market today, the cattle moving through the auction each year have dwindled to 340,000.

Theoretically, could the Oklahoma River see a dramatic decrease in cattle bio-waste if the auction and other cattle business stops?

    I would sure hope so.

Run-off from the Stockyards is a terrible polluter and it's why they can't do triathlons in the river or other swimming events.

If it's unincorporated land, what kind of public money could that be?

That million sold a year was 40 years ago.

The owners stated the reason for selling was a downturn in sales. Don't know what you are arguing about.

They also said they wanted to sell it to someone that would keep the auction going.

I seriously doubt someone is going to pay $27 million for a downward-trending cattle auction.

^^^^If it were an operation with a bright future, they would be bragging about the multi-generational management talent they are promoting to continue their brilliant growth trajectory.

OKC West cattle auction out by Banner is where it's heading.
