    No, I got the dual motor long range. They had one in stock which was exactly what I wanted up in KC, except it was a 7 seater instead of the 5.

    The back row is by no means a comfortable place to be for a road trip, but would be fine for kids. I don't know that I'll ever use it, but they sold me the 7 seater for the price of a 5 seater.

    I didn't realize those had back row and could be a 7 seater. I'm sure it's small but still impressive.

    I know you went with the BMW. I've been in BMWs since about 2011 and really enjoyed them. They lost me when they started talking about making drivers pay subscription fees for parts of the car to work which they already paid for.

    Of course I'm driving a Tesla now with full self driving, which costs per month, but that's just such a whole different level of functionality and it's worth it. I'm not paying an extra monthly fee for the heated stearing wheel to work though.

    I’m fairly certain BMW reversed course on the subscription thing. I’ve pretty much been a BMW guy in my life too. I don’t have one right now, but that’s usually the car that I drive. I haven’t been able to afford a new one yet, but I’ve always found them to be amazing cars. Just a lot of upkeep.

    I used to keep 3 to 8 cars at a time. Buying and selling at a crazy rate. Seldom had one more than 6 to 12 months. The last 20 years or so we each have 1 car and I keep them until they're completely worn out. Right now we have a 2019 and a 2005. Plus a 2002 Miata that's strictly a toy. The '05 will get replaced at some point and the resulting 2 will hopefully be the last cars we have.

    I find this funny. I'm on a Jeep forum and a Miata forum. The Jeep forum has a number of people that can't wait for Jeep to go electric because of the torque of electric motors and 4-wheeling is all about slow speeds with lots of torque. The Miata forum has a TON of EV haters. Especially TESLA. Almost every day is a new negative TESLA tread.

    Yeah they did.

    And my last one was different from your experience. 166,000 miles and not a single non-maintenance issue. The big expense for it was tires because it was xdrive and xdrive is stupid.

    They did backtrack on that, but when a company shows you that it is thinking about new and exciting ways to soak the customer and they pull back, it's only that now they're going to find a new and sneakier way to do it because selling you a car and making thousands off of the sale and financing just isn't enough anymore.

    This is kind of how I am and I'm not going to say it's 100% rational. After the winter storms several years ago and the securitization fiasco and especially with Bob Anthony retiring from the OCC, I got pissed at our electric grid and put up solar panels. I've been pissed at the gasoline producers basically since the Russia-Ukraine war started and gasoline increased substantially despite the price of a barrel of oil remaining pretty much the same. They pissed me off and I made a decision a long time ago that I would get away from ICE vehicles.

    And BMW was something I was considering, but they lost my confidence when they showed how anti consumer they wanted to be.

    Oh believe me. I've owned a Tesla for all of 4 days now and everyone out there has all of this unsolicited advice for me.

    I'm not an expert on build quality, but I don't see any panel gaps on my car. If it's super cold and I can only go 220 miles on a charge instead of 300, for about 360 days out of the year, I'll be just fine. For the other 5, I'll plan accordingly.

    As for the Miata forum, I guess they just have to try driving any EV and they will learn how ridiculous they're being. I had a client explain to me how bad EVs were because he rented one in Europe once... I mean.. yeah he didn't have a garage where he could start every day with a full charge, so yeah, that wasn't good planning on his part.

    Yea fortunately they reversed course on that, I might have been out at that point to especially for something ridiculous like a heated steering wheel or seats. It's a lease so I don't really care all that much other than the monthly payment/terms and it's working out to be about $100/cheaper than my 540 xdrive now so figured why not. I'll realistically save 300-400/mo total based on average fuel consumption & mileage.

    In all reality though any savings are probably going to make themselves back to tires pretty quick

    I've only put one set of tires on my current car at 50k though so maybe I'll only have to put 2 sets on this one. We'll see.

    Well tires were a huge problem for me in the bimmer. You know how xdrive is--you get the wonderful choice of replacing the full set every time you run over a nail or replacing one tire and having them all wear out quickly anyhow. I've never gone through so many tires in my life. I can't imagine my EV being any worse.

    The one thing I'll kavetch about is that the Tesla doesn't have a spare tire. I'm going to probably go to autozone and get one of those tire slime tire repair kits so I can limp to a tire store if I ever have an issue. I already have an air pump I carry with me.

    My MINI doesn't have a spare, but it has run-flats, strange that yours doesn't have them *or* a spare...

    Heavily dependent on how you drive the car. Had a friend with an M3 that got 15k out of the stock tires and a friend with a model s AWD that got 58k on the stocks. Has to be down to alignment or driving style. If you get Michelins on the next round they will cut you a check if they last under the amount recommended. Discount tire does it automatically!

    I've seen a lot of posts on a Miata forum that the current generation Miata has a "Seal & Inflate" kit instead of a spare. I bet at least a few new models are going that direction.

    Swinging by Autozone today to pick that up. I'm on the highway too much to not have a spare or any paln at all. Especially in cold weather.

    Wow. Tesla is just now introducing 800 volt supercharger stations. They only work on the Cybertruck and maybe next year's Y. They will be charging around 1,200 miles per hour.

    And the chargers they're working on for the electric semis are 1200 volt.

    Of course the electric infarstructure needed to push that sort of current is not insignificant. For persepective, my home charger is 240v/48amps and will charge about 50-60 miles per hour.

    Just saw my first EV Silverado on the road. Looks more like an Avalanche than a Silverado. Not a fan. I'm glad Ford kept the F-150 body for my Lightning.

    Been looking at the VW ID Buzz the last few days. Disappointing that it doesn't appear to qualify for the EV tax credit but it appears it does qualify for the section 179. Does OK have any tax credits for EVs?

    Nah, but you get to pay an extra $110 at registration, and I'm assuming every year at renewal time.

    Need to check my history books to see if Oklahoma was proudly siding with the horse buggy whip manufacturers when the combustion engine was gaining traction in the marketplace...

    You say that, but it is significantly cheaper to build a road for a horse than a combustion engine vehicle and the horse provides complementary mowing services.

    That said, there needs to be a fair model for anything with 2 or more wheels to fund the roads.

    You tried. Your first paragraph shows OK is pro-ICE cars, then you decided to go too far with your sarcasm, and ruined your whole point.

    Well yeah. OK has a gas tax that goes to road maintenance (or is supposed to). If EVs drive on the roads but don't pay that tax, it isn't fair. So I actually get it.

    And the vast majority of the damage done to our roads comes from neither EV nor ICE drivers, nor even Oklahoma residents.

    It's those 18 wheelers.

    18 wheelers weigh as much as 80,000 pounts. A really big EV or ICE car is 5,000 pounds. It's ridiculous to pit EV vs. ICE drivers in this contest. Some states (not Oklahoma as far as I can tell) charge Heavy Use Vehicle Taxes for large trucks carrying in excess of a certain weight, also known as HVUT. As things stand right now, us little guys are subsidizing out of state truckers who congest and destroy our roads because our legislature won't get on board with charging them some sort of reasonable fee. There are five states which charge large commercial semi trucks special fees for their use in those states.
