Then again, it's not his first weird rant.

I do believe him that he doesn't watch TV, though. There's highly paid complainers all over sports and news media.

Maybe he wants to get fired so he gets some sort of payment? Who knows. He does seem to be done with the whole situation.

Yea, i’m thinking this is def his last year. They are letting a very average TCU club open up a pretty big can on them.

There is absolutely no logical reason why a team that almost made the 4 team playoff last year and returned 19 of 22 starters could be this bad. Not just bad. Horrible. 7 losses in a row. Most of them not even close. Either the coaches have forgotten how to coach the players have stopped listening to the coaches. Either way the blame lies on the coaches.

I have often openly professed my absolute hatred for OSU. But this year I actually feel bad for OSU and their alumni and fans. There is no logical explanation for this team being this bad.

Do we think Gundy is officially on the way out? This can’t be very fun for that bro, even if the buyout is huge.

0-9 in conference play, wowza. Serious contender for big 12 championship coming into the season with OU/TX vacated and 19/22 starters back with super senior QB & arguably the best RB in the country. It seems totally inexplicable from the outside.

It's only 1 season but it would seem they played up to level of OU/TX more and down to level of new league. I can't help but wonder if not having the mythical season championship with Bedlam has been a factor all year.

There is absolutely no reason for being literally a score or two away from being in the National Championship 4 team playoff one year. Having almost the entire team returning this season. And being absolutely terrible this season. Plus the rant Gundy made a couple weeks ago about the lack of knowledge that the fanbase has about football and his opinion of the social status of fans doesn't bode well. If I were a donor and was told I was as stupid as Gundy told OSU fans that they are I would close my checkbook. OSU was one of the worst teams in football for many years until the last 20 years. This year they're back there and if they don't turn things around quickly they'll be back there again. They're a bad team in an average conference and they're losing 19 of 22 starters. Not a good situation for OSU fans.

A reboot like Colorado is a one time only thing. Much of the Colorado thing is having Prime Time as coach and all the things that comes with that. Assistants that want to be part of the show. Celebrities being actively engaged on the sidelines, etc. Bringing gusto to the team psyche. That's unlikely to happen again.

At least it's not like 1991 when OSU went 0-10-1. I remember that year well.

They won’t fire Gundy for this after having a great season last year (nor should they) but he’s definitely on the hot seat next year.

From 3-0, ranked #13 and a win over Arkansas to 0-9 in the Big 12 - dead last when they were picked to finish 3rd in the conference. What an epic failure of a season even for low OSU standards.

I was reading that his buyout actually goes up each year as it is a share of the total 5 year contract. So 21 million this year but as of Jan 1 it will be 27 million. OSU is in a tough place.

Gundy's contract is insane. OSU would have to pay him over $25 million if he were to be fired (according to the Oklahoman). What they should do is put him on notice that they are not renewing his contract. That would take him through the end of 2028. One of two things could happen: 1) He could have a great couple of years and then he could renegotiate for higher pay or 2) He doesn't live up to the hype and then they fire him after next season costing them less money.

You are right. In this new landscape, I wonder how school's like OSU that don't have the same level of alumni financial impact will fare.

OSU has some great alumni, but in just sheer number, the SEC and Big 10 have some of the largest living alumni bases to pull dollars from: https://www.universitymagazine.ca/th...ks-in-the-u-s/

A direct indicator of fundraising for NIL is endowments, which also come directly from private donations.

And it won't be long before the biggest schools have huge endowments just for NIL, in addition to the money that will be paid directly to athletes.

All of this is why OU, Texas, USC, and UCLA all jumped into the SEC and Big 10. They are big boys but saw the tide changing fast.

The problem for everyone on the outside is that those two conferences will likely be setting their own rules from now on, as the NCAA has effectively lost all its power.

It's been clear for a few years that there are going to be two very distinct classes of athletic programs going forward, and that separation is already starting to widen.

When/if college football becomes simply Big10 vs SEC... I wonder what that means for the sport's popularity long term.

I know I've already switched to watching much more NFL than college. If I'm going to watch a team full of professional athletes, why would I watch the minor leagues. The quirk and charm of college sports is what makes it endearing IMO.

It's basically NFL lite now, portal is a total wildcard every year and that is still getting refined (only 1 transfer period now vs 2 for example)

In a lot of ways it's an overall better product if you just look at the parity this year alone. Anyone can beat anyone on any given week. But it's a total crap show at same time.

That said I'd take the old Big 12 back in a heartbeat. Gundy just needs to get on board with the times. Even OU having extremely difficult time right now but once they get the big money from SEC deal should be a little easier.

OK State Board of regents has announced a special board meeting for Dec 6th at 7:30 am... already have one scheduled at 10AM on the 6th, and it sounds like it is still going to happen. We shall see if this is them getting board approval to move on.. i'm not so sure yet, but that seems to be the rumor

If all this is true OSU is in for a long hard road. A complete coaching shakeup and very limited NIL money compared to other schools will make it very difficult for them.
