Given the small end of truck market was largely abandon years ago due to CAFE standards, it was a little surprising some of bigger manufactures did not target their EV trucks in that zone, given there there should be more pent up demand at that size than in the current ICE truck lineups.

yea, it would be pretty amazing if someone came out with a mid-size hybrid truck that could put down a sub 4 second 0-60 time. looks like scout / volkswagen might be the first to do it.

If it wasn't BMW I wouldn't have even considered electric but it's literally the exact same chassis as the normal 4 series. That's true on the 5 & 7's as well. I didn't stay in a 5 series for one just because the new one is so large now & saving a few hundred a month all around was too good to pass up.

Really though it's the exact same BMW driving experience in terms of handling, m sport chassis, etc. Interior to a T is the exact same. I drove the m440 and wasn't even close to as quick. They also did a hans zimmer sci fi sounding noise experience that really helps the overall experience IMO esp in sport mode. It's so quiet and smooth though. All the luxury and classic elements retained with lightning quick electric performance.

The "sameness" is why I love my MINI Cooper SE - they just took the body and cabin of a regular Cooper S and put it on top of a new chassis/batteries (MINI is made by BMW). The startup noise and pedestrian warning noises are pretty cool, wife says they're spaceship-ish, and the sport mode of the MINI is truly incredible (and a bit scary at first). Hoping it'll last me for decades, because the new electric MINIs from China don't do much for me.

Exactly it's the exact same driving experience/feel other than electric power/sound vs ICE.

I've been a car guy since high school and still feel a little weird about it but I know i'll get used to it and love it. It's roller coaster torque & G's when you punch it.

I still want a true sports car, if housing market recovers I could see a corvette or something else in next couple years if I can hit some goals.

Well I think I've settled on an EV. Probably going with the Tesla Y.

I've been driving bimmers for the past decade or more, but I haven't been very impressed with their range. I've also disagreed with some of their philosophical choices, i.e., charging customers monthly or annual service fees to access basic features in vehicles like heated seats/steering wheel/etc.

I also like the Y's larger storage area and the ability to haul stuff. It's not quite my Honda Element from back in my undergrad days where I was able to haul an entire pallate (loaded by a forklift) of flooring once, but it's a big difference. I spend most of my time in central Oklahoma, but do take the occasional trip to Guymon, Idabel, Stilwell, Altus, Bartlesville, etc., and it looks like not only would the Y be good for most round trips starting from full, but I've been paying attention to charger buildouts and most of these towns have chargers now.

The big issue I have making me want to wait a few months to pull the trigger is that the Y is supposed to see a major overhaul in early 2025 and they're pretty mum about what the specifics are going to be. If it's just cosmetic, who cares?

It wont be just cosmetic. If you can test drive a new 3 versus the Y. The suspension is substantially better. Reason the Y has been so cheap is they are for sure clearing them out before the refresh.

I'm not sure whether that's smoke and mirrors. It likely is. But if you could pick up an EV9 for $45K, that'd be a hell of a deal.

The lowest trim option? Looking through the Kia forums the best deals on those were 12k on the base trim. So around 47k. They take more off the higher trims. Up to 15k.

Most say harder to deal on the base since their are fewer of them. Makes sense.

Good year to buy and EV if the tax credit gets knocked out next year. If you and the car qualify of course.

I was just looking at kias for another company car. Kalidy was the cheapest until you came to the mandatory add on "friends for life" fee of $1895. They went from being the cheapest to one of the most expensive.

From their website small print: "All New Vehicles will be assessed a fee of $1,895 for the exclusive Friends for Life package. This is not included in the online sales price. All incentives and rebates (conditional and non-conditional) are contained in the lowest advertised online sale price"

Search google for what Friends for Life gets you. If you find it...let me know because I sure couldn't see what it provided anywhere, Not sure I need friends like this.

The lady on the phone was VERY noncommittal as to whether the discount quoted on the website was an actual cash discount.

lol.....it was almost addictive. i looked when trying to figure out what friends for life means and I probably spent 20 minutes reading them they were so bad

Might be a little EV boom across the country over the next few months. I don’t pretend to know exactly what might happen, but I won’t be surprised if some of the tax credits are scaled back or scrapped, to the extent that is possible.

The alternative vehicle tax credit has been in place for years through multiple administrations so I doubt that is going anywhere. Not sure what other tax breaks have been added recently but I don’t think the individual tax credits will change much unless Biden specifically added a credit over the last four years. I do think some government incentives for automakers may be rolled back (which would likely increase electric vehicle costs). I would be willing to bet that any executive orders at the federal level requiring that a certain percentage of vehicles be electric by a future date or seen as putting ICE vehicles at a competitive disadvantage will be scrapped entirely and fairly quickly.

I bought a model Y early this year and absolutely love it. Installed a charger at home. Have gone to Dallas and Kansas City with no charging issues.
Great car so far. 16k miles already.

Most believe this would greatly assist Tesla at this time. However, I think it accelerates the efforts of the bigger automakers to get more efficient and get higher volumes. This act and tariffs on foreign cars serves up a multi billion bonus for Musk.

BYD is about to pass Ford as the 8th biggest global automaker; they are completely on fire with a ton of good, affordable vehicles and did all this in a decade.

Tariffs on Chinese cars will only repeat what happened in the 70s with the Japanese: provide short-term protection to American car companies while they fall further and further behind, until the foreign-made cars find a way into our market and completely pulverize everyone.

Cars are just crazy expensive these days and anyone who can build a good product for much less is going to dominate.

Yes if we had the Chinese EVs in our market they would dominate. They are just so subsided and have really neat features along with looks. I don't forsee that happening with whoever is in charge.

BYD is in the process of setting up a Mexican plant which would be a work-around for any tariff.

The U.S. is already flooded with Chinese-made products. Almost everything in big box retailers and on Amazon comes from China.

Are there any issues with them being able to be driven in America? I know that is you buy a foreign version of a car sold in America, it takes a physics degree to get it to be able to be legal in America. Just not sure if these cars that are so cheap are built to the standards required to be driven in America (legally).
