Right after Gordon was helped off the field one of the announcers actually said "If I were Gordon that would be my last play for OSU". I don't think I've heard anything quite like that before.

After seeing the ASU Sun Devils give the OSU Cowboys a good whoopin' this past weekend, I would not be surprised if OSU lets Mike Gundy go as head coach.

He just seems to have become complacent and has worn out his welcome a while ago. I loved watching his coached teams a long time ago.

What is his buyout? Does the school have anymore extremely wealthy donors to bail out of that contract?

Honestly the program probably needs a full house-cleaning. Being dead last in conference play with their returning players is incredibly bad.

OSU played in the Big12 conference championship game LAST SEASON. He's not going anywhere.

Gundy is the most successful OSU coach in history by a huge margin. He's not getting fired for one bad season, which is what almost all OSU seasons were like before he took over. lol

I'm not sure who's been more dissapointing between my sooners and OSU this year.

I can explain OU pretty easy, one really bad decision by BV not to hire a OC out of house basically.

OSU makes no sense whatsoever, we were supposed to be giving you all the keys to the BIG 12 & you've got all the offensive talent back. Mind boggling. I wonder if maybe there is a different edge without OU on the radar anymore?

    His buyout is $20 million

I'm guessing NIL has changed the landscape in such a way that old school coaches are getting caught off guard. Some coaches will adapt and some won't. Gundy has pretty hip through the years, so I think he will recover, if he wants to.

While we are concerned about buyout amounts for both Gundy and Venables, it can give us comfort learning some other coaching buyouts...Mike Norvell at Florida State is $63 million; Billy Napier at Florida is $26 million; Lincoln Riley is reported to be $90 million!

Going to the championship game last year is part of the equation. 19 of 22 starters returned. So they can't blame it on portal defections, etc. The most logical explanation for having an experienced team that was very good last year and is horrible this season is coaching.

I would suggest the most visible and successful person associated with OSU since 1986 has a 2 month rough patch with 20 year old men under his direction. I cannot imagine he suddenly became incompetent.

How do you explain this disaster? Pretty much the same team with a softer schedule.

Not a two month rough stretch. At least a year long rough stretch. The results this year are caused by things that started at the end of last season or before. And should have been seen and fixed. Plenty of time and lots of practices for a very seasoned coach and 19 returning starters from a very good team.
