I really am not a big fan of what is happening in Vegas overall. Both the Tropicana and the mirage are now completely completely closed. The Tropicana is being dismantled, and that is moving along pretty quickly. I believe they will do an implosion, but I’m not sure.

Regarding the mirage, The last volcano show was last week. I went and saw it and it was heartbreaking. So much history that. One of the few cool free things You can see randomly while walking down the strip. It does seem like in some of the newer renderings they plan on keeping the mirage building while building the new guitar shaped hard rock, hotel, and casino. I’m not sure if that’s because they just didn’t feel like editing it out or if they plan on keeping it and renovating it. If it’s latter, that would be really cool.

The plan is indeed to keep the Mirage tower and add the new Guitar shaped hotel in front of it.

Nothing ever stays the same in Vegas. For all the history and nostalgia people talk about with the Mirage and Tropicana, those properties were 34 and 67 years old respectively and changed many times throughout their history. The final version of the Tropicana that got demolished was mostly constructed in the 70's and 80's.

It does suck that Vegas gets continually more expensive and there are less truly unique, interesting, and cheap or free things to do, but that's capitalism for you. They keep lowering the bar and people keep buying in record numbers.

I was actually just there last weekend and stayed downtown. That is a much more authentic Vegas experience than the mega resorts on the strip - and typically a bit cheaper too.

I’m going to the Fontainebleau For the first time next week, so I’m pretty excited for that. I’ve heard it’s a nice hotel. I still haven’t been in resort world nor the Sphere. Those are both on my list. I do enjoy staying downtown, but the panhandling on Fremont is getting a bit out of control.
