These are good takes. My only difference is Osteria. My favorite Italian in town. You just need to add a little salt. I saw Stranger on one of Guy Fieri's cooking contests and he lost the challenge for a lack of salt and I thought, "that sounds about right!"

This caught me off guard because the last time we were there they over salted all the main dishes. My Cacio e pepe was just pure salt and very mushy. Now El Coyote to me is very bland.

i don't think that craft beer is over... i think that just when Oak and Ore was opened, it was the only place to get a lot of these beers. now many of those from outside the state are available at liquor stores to bring home, and local brewery scene in OKC now has some really great players, so people weren't really going to Oak and Ore anymore... this is my statement on the few breweries that have closed as well, you now have to actually know how to manage a business, or have a good location... you can't just open and think you are going to do well. there are too many good options now.

I think it is more that the demographics of the plaza have change a ton. It is no longer even close to a cheap neighborhood. I think a lot of the people that used to be regulars have moved further and further away.

+1 on this, as a 3-4 times a year hardcore Northern New Mexico visitor the idea that El Coyote is supposed to be New Mexican food, which if anything is overly flavorful, is pretty bonkers to me. Osteria had very good quality pasta, a nice looking room, but horrific inconsistency and weird menu choices.

Yeah, I was just in New Mexico a year ago and the flavors no matter where you are in the state are so good. El Coyote misses on every mark when it comes to those flavors. I love all the concepts they have, but the food is usually not that great.

When we walk in and one of the girls starts making my wife's specialty coffee- it is worth it. I like the simplistic nature of the dishes they serve. I want a traditional breakfast since I don't eat it often.

Couldn't agree with you more. We were very excited about what it was SUPPOSED to be. But when we got to finally try the food we were very unimpressed. For what it's worth we really enjoy Green Chili Kitchen in Yukon. Is it "true" N. Mexican cuisine? ??? All we know is, it's delicious :-)

It is terrible and not remotely authentic. But, people seem to like it so whatever.

Oak and Ore - bummer but CRAFT BEER IS OVER (I loved this place but I hated craft beer boom and am not too sad to see the rest of them go)
Ned's Starlite Lounge - This place made no sense to exist but maybe it was good? I never ate there because of how much I hated the Nomad II
The Catch - BI - Chain, never ate there, oh well
Elk Valley Brewery - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries

The Copley - 23rd - healthy food without greens? never got it, that said, great space and had a decent wine list, I'll miss having meetings there but hopefully new owners understand the value of good greens.

LMAO. Spot on. And when we had like 12 breweries open within a few years downtown everyone knew this wasn't sustainable, except the earnest brewers of course.

Oozie's Mediterranean has closed, but apparently they will re-open in Edmond next year. Big loss for OKC, in my opinion, as it was excellent food and family run. The owner told me long ago that he was searching for a better location in OKC, but I guess he didn't have luck. He indicated he wanted to move into one of the empty spots in LIFT, but that they were difficult to work with and wanted to charge some outrageous price to install the required vent hoods (hundreds of thousands of dollar).

Honestly felt like Black Mesa had some of the best Oklahoma beers. I understand the sentiment that it may have been overcrowded, but Black Mesa was one of the really good ones.


I think they truly just retired though, so maybe not because of failure to sell.

I'm sorry to hear that. Their food was always good and consistent, and the elderly man who ran it was super nice. Last time we stopped in for lunch he said he was having trouble keeping it going, so sorry to hear it but not surprised to hear it.

i heard it through a very reliable source on the matter that their biggest issue was with the Oklahoma Tax Commission. and that closing and selling the building was more to satisfy those issues.
