This caught me off guard because the last time we were there they over salted all the main dishes. My Cacio e pepe was just pure salt and very mushy. Now El Coyote to me is very bland.

I think it is more that the demographics of the plaza have change a ton. It is no longer even close to a cheap neighborhood. I think a lot of the people that used to be regulars have moved further and further away.

Not sure how long ago, but Moon Thai, across from Walmart neighborhood market on nw 23rd is no longer there.

This place was excellent and very popular. Closing had nothing to do with lack of business.

I don't understand your connection of cheap neighborhood to craft beer. If anything I identify cheap neighborhood with factory beer,

Oh yeah fully believed, I just had no idea anything about it because 170th street, in terms of me eating a dinner, may as well be in Wichita Kansas

+1 on this, as a 3-4 times a year hardcore Northern New Mexico visitor the idea that El Coyote is supposed to be New Mexican food, which if anything is overly flavorful, is pretty bonkers to me. Osteria had very good quality pasta, a nice looking room, but horrific inconsistency and weird menu choices.

Yeah, I was just in New Mexico a year ago and the flavors no matter where you are in the state are so good. El Coyote misses on every mark when it comes to those flavors. I love all the concepts they have, but the food is usually not that great.

Could not agree more. Sure, the food could be better but for the price point it more than gets the job done. I've always thought that place had a good sense of community. It's definitely the neighborhood spot.

When we walk in and one of the girls starts making my wife's specialty coffee- it is worth it. I like the simplistic nature of the dishes they serve. I want a traditional breakfast since I don't eat it often.

Couldn't agree with you more. We were very excited about what it was SUPPOSED to be. But when we got to finally try the food we were very unimpressed. For what it's worth we really enjoy Green Chili Kitchen in Yukon. Is it "true" N. Mexican cuisine? ??? All we know is, it's delicious :-)

Really like Shartel Cafe. Biggest bowl of Oatmeal in town!

And then your next passive aggressive comment is “this is the closed restaurant thread”.

It is terrible and not remotely authentic. But, people seem to like it so whatever.

Osteria - this place was literally never good, I wanted it to be, but it never was
Sunset - thank god this is gone
Louie's MT - Louies is literally a cancer, glad it is being cured
1492 MT - not that good, must have been well managed tho because wow, how did this last so long ?!?!
Scratch - this is a bummer, but not suprising, the food was never quite as good as the drink prices which is never good
Capitals MT - bummer but oh well, it's not their fault that Boomtown exists
City + State - I never understood who this was for?
Cafe do Brasil - retirement, rip
Oak and Ore - bummer but CRAFT BEER IS OVER (I loved this place but I hated craft beer boom and am not too sad to see the rest of them go)
Ned's Starlite Lounge - This place made no sense to exist but maybe it was good? I never ate there because of how much I hated the Nomad II
The Catch - BI - Chain, never ate there, oh well
Elk Valley Brewery - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries
Twisted Spike Brewery - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries
Cross Timbers Brewery - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries
Moni's - I mean it was at like 170th, does anyone eat up there?
The Mantle - RIP but also, it was still open? weird
The Copley - 23rd - healthy food without greens? never got it, that said, great space and had a decent wine list, I'll miss having meetings there but hopefully new owners understand the value of good greens.
Black Mesa Brewery - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries
City Garden - Craft Brewing is over and the saturation was almost as bad as dispensaries
VZD's - My god please just make it a simple sandwiches and chips restaurant again, I will never forgive that idiot for ruining this insanely easy restaurant
The Eleanor - again still open? it was a champagne bar with nothing but Cava and Prosecco on the menu
Shiki - I mean, is it 2003? don't worry they'll open something else near the strip club
LMAO. Spot on. And when we had like 12 breweries open within a few years downtown everyone knew this wasn't sustainable, except the earnest brewers of course.

Oozie's Mediterranean has closed, but apparently they will re-open in Edmond next year. Big loss for OKC, in my opinion, as it was excellent food and family run. The owner told me long ago that he was searching for a better location in OKC, but I guess he didn't have luck. He indicated he wanted to move into one of the empty spots in LIFT, but that they were difficult to work with and wanted to charge some outrageous price to install the required vent hoods (hundreds of thousands of dollar).

Honestly felt like Black Mesa had some of the best Oklahoma beers. I understand the sentiment that it may have been overcrowded, but Black Mesa was one of the really good ones.

I think they truly just retired though, so maybe not because of failure to sell.

Yeah, Oozie’s Mediterranean is opening very soon on Edmond Road between Santa Fe and Western (almost 178th, just east of the OKC border)

That's a shame. That space will be empty forever I guess.

I'm sorry to hear that. Their food was always good and consistent, and the elderly man who ran it was super nice. Last time we stopped in for lunch he said he was having trouble keeping it going, so sorry to hear it but not surprised to hear it.

i heard it through a very reliable source on the matter that their biggest issue was with the Oklahoma Tax Commission. and that closing and selling the building was more to satisfy those issues.
