Which these days is unfortunately true in just about every venue, and at nearly every show. It’s the double-edged sword for a growing music scene these days; finally we are getting great shows in OKC, and more than ever new people are discovering the joy of live music. But along with the cultural mainstreaming of concerts you get a big chunk of people who are only there for the scene and for the ‘Gram, but who aren’t truthfully lovers of music.

Back when only about 50-100 people routinely showed up for the rare live show that came to town, statistically EVERYONE at that show was there for that band and that show, not to see or be seen. But with only 50-100 people showing up reliably, it also meant far fewer quality shows here. It’s a catch 22.

^^^ Have to say that was one of the few good things about the B&S show - when they came on stage, damn near everybody stopped talking and listened to/watched the band - very nice and unexpected surprise.

    ^^^^^^
I definitely experience quieter more music-centric crowds at shows where either the act is on the rise and still hasn’t achieved a mainstream following, or in the case of a band like B&S where the act - while still fresh and relevant - may have already peaked from a popular perspective and is no longer “trendy.” I definitely prefer the audiences at those shows.

I’d forgotten about that but you’re right. I only knew 3-5 of their songs and it was annoying when even those were being talked over. That said, still definitely enjoyed the show.

I was at the B&S show and had a different take than Travellers. It was indeed, full to brim. It was totally sold out. So, with that in mind, I would imagine that most shows there will not be that crowded in the future.

I never had to wait for a drink and despite the awkward location of the bathrooms, I was able to easily navigate the crowd during B&S's set to hit the WC.

Super excited to have a fun mid-sized venue like this.

Yeah.... I think that's about how many the people around me knew because they would shut up and then hold their phone up in front of me so I could watch the show on their phone.....errrrrr... I mean so they could record a video.

Big recommendation to check out Bartees Strange on December 16th here. That will be a great show, especially seeing as he grew up in Mustang.

Cannons last night was even more packed than Belle & Sebastian, but they had the AC dialed in right - it was nice and cool, despite literally being wall-to-wall-to-wall-to-stage people (I'm sure the cooler temps helped, but at B&S, you couldn't feel the air actually blowing on you and last night you could).

And Cannons is an incredible band, the energy last night from both them and the audience was insane!

It was also like 15-20 degrees cooler last night than the night Belle and Sebastian played... Glad you had a nice time. Any luck making it to the bathroom?

Well, yeah, I mentioned that, but as I also said, you could actually feel the air moving, which you couldn't at B&S (at least where we were at during that show, we got closer and more towards the middle for Cannons). Didn't even try to hit the restroom.

I went down a rabbit hole of smaller venues after being turned on to Resonant Head by some fellow ULI-ers and was looking at Beer City's website and they are fully booked, save for a few dates through October.

It appears they are closed on Mondays, for the most part, but looking into the rest of September, they are booked every day but Sunday and Monday and looking into October, Wednesday, October 11th, Tuesday, October 17th and Saturday, October 28th, they are booked. Even getting into November, they are pretty well booked up.

I wanted to go see Helmet on Friday October 13th, but we will be out of town. I might go see Magnolia Park in a few weeks. I am glad to see venues like this booking so many bands. I need to get there and see a show or two in the future.

Completely agree - Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country is playing in a few months. Should be a helluva show

All this talk about the venue, and no one ever mentioned that the burritos they serve here are incredible. I need to find out who supplies them. I would sneak back into a show just to get more of those things.

This is very good information. I didn’t even know what I’d been missing.

The only time we went the burritos weren’t even available
