Thread: Krells East Coast Deli

    Default Krells East Coast Deli

From the Patrono FB page. Looks like executive chef Jonathan will be opening a new concept in the old Crave spot in Yukon. Located on Mustang Rd north of I40 right next to the new Panang. Looking forward to this.

Jonathan is one of the most creative and talented chefs in OKC, would literally eat anything he makes. He knows how to make one hell of a sandwich too and this will tie in his Philly roots. Stoked for this one!

MAN! Great concept. Terrible location. Why? Why not have this in the center of OKC where such a deli would be a destination?

Since I live in Yukon I think it’s a great location! . Yukon has the fastest growing zip code in OK and in the top 4-5 in the country. Maybe he’s looking at the bigger picture.

^^ perhaps so. OKC needs a real deli though. Scottie's was pretty good.

Being from Yukon as well, I think he will get plenty of business out here. We do need more food options as the supply currently lags demand.

Good for Yukon, OKC central needs an amazing deli and if there was one it would make a killing

Krells is now open in Yukon. Been open since this past Monday. I got a pastrami sandwich. It was moist and flavorful, rye was great. The meat was sliced a bit thicker than the Jewish delis I go to on Long Island but it was flavorful. I got a side of potato salad. It was a different kind than I’ve seen but it was really good, flavors were fresh and bright. They bring house made pickles to the table which were a great addition and tasted perfect. My hubs got a Philly cheesesteak with fries. From what I remember a cheesesteak tasting like when I was in Philly Krells is on point. The whole thing was amazing. Right down to the roll and cheese whiz. Looking forward to going back to try some other things. This is a great addition to the west metro!!

this place sounds great... going to have to check it out. besides the sandwiches, there aren't a ton of places around okc where you can get capicola by the pound.

Pastrami & provolone on rye with mustard and a side of potato salad and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda is what I had there yesterday for lunch. Wowza ! My bud had The Reuben and Wowza again ! I will recommend this place and we both plan on going back after seeing some of the other sandwiches there. That complimentary pickle platter is a real bonus, including the unusual pickled tomatoes, a bonus enough that they happily provided me with an extra. This has been a nice addition for great deli sandwiches since my favorite Scottie's Deli went out.

I wonder if he'll consider doing another location in OKC?

It's amazing that Yukon has a solid traditional deli and OKC does not.

I don't necessarily blame him for using Yukon as a test market. The demographics out there are just awfully strong, and the patrons are desperate for non-fried chicken food options.

I believe he lives out that way.

Went in for lunch with my Mother a week ago. At about 1 pm on a Friday, it was still pretty busy. It slowed down by the time we left, but everything was really good. I got the pastrami special and potato salad. Every meal comes with a pickled plate. Can't wait to take the short trip back.

Had to make a run out to Yukon today so stopped and tried it out....I've never been to a New York Deli, and have no plans to, but I know good food.... And this Reuben was a great sandwich.... I devoured most of the pickles too.

I was there at almost straight up noon and they weren't at capacity but they were doing a pretty brisk business with people filing in steadily.

we swung by there today to check it out... ordered one pastrami with swiss, one italian sub, and a pound of capicola to go. the sandwiches came with a side of pickles, boxed separately.

i really enjoyed the pastrami... both the bread and meat had really great flavor. the italian sub (the "italian stallion") was actually kind of bland. there wasn't any sauce to speak of and the sandwich really could have benefitted from some pepper relish, or vinegar or something. i hate to say it, but i think jersey mike's makes a better italian sub. the capicola wasn't a bad deal at $11/lb but i was kind of disappointed that it was the wet-cured rather than the dry-cured variety. that's just the brand that they stock and it certainly isn't anybody's fault there. what really shined for me was the pickles... for me, they were the star of the show. the pickles were house-made and were extremely tasty... i generally prefer dill over sweet, but their sweet pickle chips were the perfect balance of sweet and sour. don't think i'd drive all the way to yukon to visit on a regular basis, but overall it's a pretty nice place.

Yes, I went the other day and was extremely impressed with the pastrami. A bit thick on the cut by default, but I got a second sandwich, a deluxe without cheese, and I asked for it "juicy"...they have a "juicy" button. THAT one was like that which I prefer. Scottie's was that way, but they smoked it way too much with the wrong wood, or something.

I LOVE the assortment of pickles. We were able to get a second plate, too (three of us), but we were advised that that was pushing it due to supply issues. Hopefully that gets fixed; they're amazing.

^^Scottie's was good in a pinch, but I agree their pastrami was too much. Too salty, too smoky, too seasoned.

Can't wait to try this place out should I be in Yukon during a lunch hour.

Went on Friday a little after 11am...only a few customers dining in but several waiting on to-go orders...was getting busier as I left.

The counter and table service was very friendly and the food came out quick. The Reuben was excellent (could have used a little more kraut), the pickles were great (spicy green tomatoes were my favorite), and the potato salad was not what I expected but still very good. All washed down with a Doc Brown's black cherry soda made for a nice meal.
