Thread: Momocha

    Midtown Momocha

Momocha opened yesterday (5/31) in the Plaza Court building; I was their first customer.

The serve mochi donuts which are made with tapioca flour and have a different, richer texture. I thought they were fantastic.

They also serve a variety of boba drinks, milk tea, smoothies and organic coffee.

    Open every day 8AM - 6PM.

hope they make it, feel like these off-the-main-drag spots in midtown have had a tougher time historically

It may be able to survive off the hospital staff and visitors. But I agree this entire side of this complex seems so dead to me, and my brain just imagines it as parking, and not actual storefronts.

Maybe the residential going up across the street will help.

That entire building is fully leased: McNellies, Hacienda Tacos, Insomnia Cookies, Barkeep and several others.

What will help is people actually patronizing this type of local business instead of being negative and predicting doom.

People have been lamenting the closure of GoGo Sushi closing right across the street but clearly they needed more customers.

Went in around 11 am and they were actually pretty busy for a small place. They are so so nice. I almost bought all the donuts they had left. The donuts are so good and the teas are great too. I think this will be a successful spot, but I agree that it needs to be reaching more people that it exists.

I'm happy to hear they were busy as yesterday there was no one in there.

They don't even have a sign yet.

I'm sure our posts on social media drove a lot of business their way.

I told them Pete from OKCTALK sent me. Haha! They were low on donuts, so I am guessing that means they had a good morning!

Ha! Yeah, yesterday they had a bunch of donuts on display that probably didn't sell.

I told them I was going to post today so they'd better be ready for lots more business.

Forgot to mention all their donuts are gluten-free, as mochi recipes call for tapioca flour.

    Love to see that.

Before we posted on social media about them, they had less than 50 followers. They now have over 1,100 and growing.

mochi donuts are great for sharing as they're easily segmented.

Posted today they will be closed on Sundays for the foreseeable future, as they need rest after being overwhelmed.

    Very happy for their success.

Great to hear that they’re doing so well. I hope they don’t fully give up on Sundays, though. This would probably be a Sunday stop for me or I personally will struggle to work it into the mix.

After they got overwhelmed, they made a 'now hiring' post.

They were trying to cover 10 hours a day, 7 days a week with just a few people (I believe they are all family).

Yep, I figured that had to be the case. They’re absolutely doing the right thing, especially in light of the current labor market. No reason to take the joy to soon out of early success.

Coming out of the gate so strong like that will enable them to take it on at their own pace. That’s a nice luxury for them. Just hoping they don’t get so insulated from the hunger of business startup that they forgo Sundays forever and cut out a willing but otherwise unavailable customer segment. That would probably be a really easy route to stay on once you get used to it. Everybody loves Sundays off.

I went by on Sunday around noon and they were very busy.

They seem to have found a following and have dramatically increased the quantity and variety of donuts.

Their donuts look very similar to Mr Donut of Japan.

Wish them all of success in Midtown!!

I've always wanted to check out Momocha, but literally never have time to go to the area.
I follow them on insta and learned they're opening a second location in NW OKC, which is amazing news because it's much closer to my neck of the woods.

Soft opening on the 9th and 10th, grand opening on 14th (Saturday).

I'll probably try to go near the end of the month, but can anyone tell me how they compare to Mochinut? I found Mochinut to be extremely dense and would rather eat regular donuts and mochi separately. Momocha seems to have a lot of different things (like kolaches, croffles, more drinks), so if their ring donuts are the same, then I can always skip those..
