Haha, I was just about to post that. I saw on Twitter they are getting ready to install solar on the rooftop. That should produce an insane amount of energy for a rooftop.
That building and that YouTube channel are both insane
I’m definitely not fanboying - not a fan of Musk or of Tesla - but I’m pretty fascinated by construction and development on that scale, and fascinated by manufacturing in general.
Plus it blows my mind that multiple guys have apparently turned documenting this one project on YouTube into a cottage industry. I guess not entirely different than what Pete does here on OKCTalk, but crazy how it’s the ONLY project being covered there.
And he goes really deep into analysis of what is being received, staged, etc. The logistics part combined with speculation about what each delivery means regarding where they are in the timeline is some true construction/development/manufacturing fanboy porn.
Speaking of GigaTexas, looks like production has finally begun!

No inspection tags or plates on the new Model Y's.
The other day I got to go up to the 52 floor of The Austonian for a contracting job.
Holy sh!t, Tesla isn’t even finished with its massive Giga factory and they’re already planning an expansion:

Yeah those boring tunnels seem like a fraud.
Recent video showing what's to come for the future of Rainey Street Austin
I’m really trying to understand the concept behind that. At first I thought it was an initiative to try and develop new technologies and engineering methods to make tunneling cheaper and quicker. But I’m not seeing anything about that just certain tunnels that are approved, then dug with almost 0 transparency or progress reports, and then like the one in Vegas they open and then show the single lane tunnels and only Teslas using them.
Ironically there’s also traffic jams at the portals which kind of defeats the purpose. I think Elon figures he can take on more projects than he really can. Then again I guess he still can find the time to testify for Amber Heard when he’s not having an affair with her so I don’t know what the deal is.
But I really would like to know what the purpose of the boring company is because more and more it just seems like it’s some PR scam for Tesla.
Well the one in Kyle is proposing a walkable tunnel under a super busy highway. So I can see that becoming more of a reality than what they did in Las Vegas. What I've learned from living in Texas is that city and state officials do not plan for future growth. You got Austin which is now the 10th largest city in the U.S and 2.4 million in the metro and most of which drives vehicles. The city is nearly buckling under it's infrastructure. I'm hoping for a solution soon to our transportation woes.
Wouldn't doubt if Austin has already surpassed San Jose. The rate Austin growing with Tesla, Oracle, and possibly Twitter, Austin could be bracing for Texas size growth like you see in Houston or DFW. Currently the Austin metro area adds approximately 70,000 new residents per year, that could increase to 100,000 per year.
that seems very high, from 2010 until 2020 Austin gained 171,465 people in the span of a decade. 2021 Austin averaged 116 a day for the metro which is 42,340 for the year.
Still very impressive and Austin will eventually surpass San Jose making Texas the only state with 4 cities in the top 10 most populated cities.
I'm talking about city proper not metro and as of now Austin's metro is larger than San Jose's metro
Austin-area rancher to Elon Musk: I'll give you 100 acres for free to build a new Twitter HQ
I want to point out that this land straddles both Austin and the Temple - Killeen area. If Elon does purchase, it will be a boom to both metros.
I almost moved to Austin in 2011 and at the last second I chose OKC. I thought why move to a city that is already trendy and known around the world so I picked a city with the, when asked "why in the hell would you move there" vibe, never have I once regretted it.
OKC is an definitely up and coming. I've been there several times and not once did I have a bad experience. Back in 2013 I took my gf to Myriad Botanical Gardens and showed her downtown and she fell in love. I do regret not making that move at the time but I still plan on making my way up there soon.
The Republic Tower will be an Austin icon
https://austin.towers.net/the-republ...lyn@towers.netJAMES RAMBIN APRIL 20, 2022
Today, national developers Lincoln Property Company and the Dallas-based Phoenix Property Company announced a partnership with California investment firm DivcoWest to develop The Republic, a 48-floor, 833,000-square-foot office tower bound for a full block at 401 West Fourth Street, located directly south of the signature downtown park at Republic Square providing the building’s namesake.
The partners also announced the tower has secured its first major tenant, though the company in question remains undisclosed — and that the project is set to break ground later this quarter, possibly as early as the next few weeks, with all permits now approved. Early site prep is already visibly underway at the former parking lot, with the current target for the building’s completion around the end of Q4 2024 or Q1 2025. “We’re clearly betting big on Austin office space,” says Seth Johnston, a senior vice president at Lincoln Property Company.
This is very similar to how I ended up in OKC after growing up in Michigan, and why I've come back after trying Denver a couple of times. There's something to be said for living in a place that doesn't have you feeling like a walking Millennial cliché on a day-to-day basis. Doubt that I'll stay here forever as I feel I'm probably just too flighty to ever feel comfortable settling down in a particular place, but out of the three states I've lived in, this is the one that has always felt like home to me.
