To give more context, the grass was already dead (dormant?) when it was laid, the irrigation was never set up much less used, the trees just went through 2 years of construction around the roots, and the "fountain" area already floods when it rains.

All the trees are less than a year old I'm pretty sure. They removed the older and larger trees before construction.

Ahh gotcha. I forgot about those! They did remove big trees that were located on the west side of Oklahoma tower.

This is a great project, but the implementation just left a lot to be desired. We didn't even get a chance to use the space before the cold set in and all the problems that come up in the next few months would have been so much easier to take care of when the weather was above freezing.

This area is really nice, especially with the fountain. But the lack of seating is strange. Went out here the other week to eat some icecream in the shade, and had to sit @ that awkward wall just west of the fountain... Which I guess is fine, but it isn't made for sitting.

Probably an effort to keep homeless out of the area.

Pedestrian plazas are for looking pretty, not actually to use.

Pedestrian plazas would be really nice if the streets around them that you cross to get to them weren't under never-ending and/or repeating road construction/ road work.

If I understand this correctly, at least portions of this the P180 pedestrian plaza will become the Clara Luper Sit-In Plaza. I don't _think_ this could be a new plaza.

Looks like they plan to redo this area which was just recently completed:

That is such a waste, it would be nice to put it in another space that we didnt just spend money on.

While I get where you're coming from - and I agree to a large extent - it's important to remember that the location chosen here is significant. Katz Drug Store, where the sit-in protests occurred, was located at 200 W Main - on the corner of Main & Robinson. That's right where this park is too. The timing is regrettable but it's important to have the monument there, or at least as close as possible.

I agree with both of you, more thought should have been put forth during the original development so that reference to the Katz Drug Store that used to be located there could have been implemented in the original development. Instead, we develop (usually half step) and then tear it up only to re-develop when the next buzz word or fad hits.

What does the downtown design committee do? Should have serious consideration about the history and impact of things and not just rubber stamping for the sake of spending fiscal funds.
