Thread: Adventure District

    Default Adventure District

There wasn't a catch all thread for this district so here it is.

After the discussion about the Lincoln Park Golf Course and how nice it is I decided to drive and bike around the area. The Lincoln Golf Course is indeed a beautiful course. Inadvertently I somehow found myself on a path I thought was a trail but it was for golf carts only. I won't be making that mistake again.

So many nice buildings and facilities only to be served by ugly and subpar infrastructure. I mean this area probably makes up for a sizeable chunk of city revenue. Why does the city not do anything besides the occasional resurfacing?? If there was ever a justification for a TIF district or a P180 thing it should be here. Many roads need landscaped medians, sidewalks, landscaping, reconstruction, MLK should have dedicated bus lanes, etc.

It is hard to believe how many museums and attractions in this one area, that surely are visited by city leaders, are surrounded by some of the most mediocre infrastructure in the city. This is like a forgotten part of the city and feels like a time machine back to early 2000s OKC lol. It really is a bad image on OKC and there is no nice way into the area either. The only project I know of is ODOT's I-35 widening which will no doubt include rebuilt interchanges so that will be nice but it isn't programmed until later this decade.

If there's a railway museum thread I couldn't find it, so here's this, didn't realize there was an expansion...

The area near the U.S.A. Softball Complex near Persimmon Hill (NCWHM) and the OKC Zoo is very beautiful and hilly. Would love to see a hotel complex started in the area.

But there IS a hotel there and it has never spurned additional hotel growth in the area.

Closest I can find on Google Maps is a Park Hill Inn and Suites up by the Cowboy Museum, I dunno if that really counts for an Adventure District hotel. Maybe there's something closer but I could not find it.

There have been plans for a couple of hotels around 50th and I-35, but they never were built for some reason.

How often does Remington Park actually use all of its parking? A decent hotel complex in replacement for the furthest out section of parking lot right on the corner of MLK and Grand would be a big improvement for the district.

That lot is never close to full, plus they have a big grassy area to the north.

I was told their long-term plan was for a hotel on that parcel but I don't think it will happen any time soon.

I remember talking to Jim Thompson (aLoft in deep deuce) years ago and he was interested in building a hotel there as it would have access to the highway, cowboy, Remington, zoo and SMO, but couldn’t really make the numbers work and banks didn’t think it was viable so financing would be difficult.

You would think a hotel on the Remington Park site where you do have gambling would be feasible especially for tourism and keeping some gambling local. If you're going to allow gambling in its present form (machines) why not make an exception for this one venue and go all out with card and table games as well. Think of the unlimited potential this Racing Park and Casino would have.

Remington Park IMO has never been able to grow or reach full potential because of the limited use of this facility with Oklahoma's archaic gambling laws. Don't know of any gambling type facility that doesn't have a hotel on the site. Get 'em loose on drinking alcohol--put 'em behind a vehicle on Oklahoma roads and you expect them to be responsible drivers...

You would think some type of hotel would have been built on site (Old Historic Scenic Route 66) since it is close to The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, USA Hall of Fame Stadium & Softball Hall of Fame, Firefighters Museum, Oklahoma City Zoo, Zoo Amphitheater and Omniplex--Science Museum Oklahoma (SMO) and YOU OKLAHOMA haven't figured out a way to make this area a comfortable stay--Shame On You--The Emperor no brains.

Oklahoma has failed to make this a true tourist destination. Can you truly call this An Adventure District...

Agree, this area has been neglected and agree it's a shame. A ton of potential here. BTW the zoo uses Remington park as overflow parking on busy days.
